Capitalism or fraud?

A couple of years ago, my local tyre guy put the winter tyres on and told me when I collected the car that the summer rears were 'worn out' I insisted on seeing them, and he very reluctantly produced them from 'out the back', they were clearly good for another season. We had a bit of a row and I've never gone back. He retired to a mansion last year.
I bet he donates to the Tory party too and now has a Government contract ;)

When we lived in Norfolk we used a little garage in Norwich for mots and servicing/repairs to older cars. He always looked after our kids cars and if it needed parts he would source 2nd hand ones if it was safe to do so. He’d always call with a price before undertaking any work. A real old school mechanic.

In the general Audi theme - my wife had an S5 which she'd taken in for a service. When it was due for collection she was stuck in work so I went. Imagine my surprise when presented with the nice sheet of paper with all the nice green and red boxes on it, that the boxes for tyres had been highlighted amber. The commentary basically said 6mm on all the tyres, recommended replacement, then a nice little attachment at the back costing out the tyres. This was a main dealer we'd been having discussions with along with AUDI UK about a faulty TTS, so the service manager knew me. His face was a picture when he walked around the corner after I'd asked to speak to him, I swear I could lip read him saying 'oh s*&t'. He couldn't give an answer as to why new tyres had been recommended and insisted it couldn't possibly be because they'd been expecting my wife to collect it. Cue another complaint to Audi UK and a bottle of champagne and a sorry letter. I suppose that's how they get to keep the franchise after building those shiny new sheds to sell cars...

Audi again here, many years back I had an S3 and it had gone in for a Service - I got a call to say that it needed front discs & pads plus 2 tyres. Considering I'd changed the pads and measured the discs only 2000 miles before I told them no, also I knew the tyres were ok. Cue picking it up and I ended up having a right barney with the Service manager. When I got it back we checked it over, they had only changed the oil & filter despite charging for an air filter, cabin filter and haldex oil and filter!

I claimed on my credit card and informed local Trading standards (they said I wasn't the first) - I also reported them to Audi UK but got a bit of standard fob off.

Should put a web cam on each service bay and let you watch.

No not that type of service for all those who's mind is close to the gutter.

talking about cameras, have you guys notice that main stealers are quick to disconnect dash cams, my local bmw main stealer does it all the time and when questioned i'm told for personal privacy rules, what a load of bollox, more like don't want to be rumbled in doing dodgy work or thrashing the car about

When I bought that 18 year old range rover it had a full service history , one owner for 15 years
4 services at the main dealer then 11 at a local garage

The first 4 bills were something like £300 £450 £300 £1600 so I'm guessing the last one is after the warranty ran out :D

always suspicious of a full stamped book on older motors, easy to get new blank books and a couple of stamps made up and hey presto instant fsh, a few dodgy traders caught out with nice collection of main dealer stamps/fake independent and blank books, i suppose a bit trickier these days for dodgy trades with no more books and all computerised with main dealers

You always need the service book backed up with the detailed invoices to have a proper service history.
