Can't use manual gears on 4.2 ZF QPV

I rarely use the manual side of my auto box. I can switch into manual gear using the paddles when in "auto", but when I push the gear lever over to "manual" the box stays in auto mode.

I have looked at the connections (electronic and mechanical) and can't see anything obvious. I have cleaned the connections on the plugs to the automatic gearbox display (222653) to the left of the gear lever.

Has anyone else had this issue please?

Thanks

I have this problem now...although everything is unconnected in the middle between both front seats due to fixing the infotainment system. From a casual inspection I expect it all to work again when reconnected. The manual mode via gear stick is driven by the senor immediately on the left (if RHD). Thoughts: wiring loom damaged, connection dirty (you have cleaned), or fuse.

This gearbox is shared with various other cars - I think @CatmanV2 has some details. There might be a manual you can study.

Yeah, lots. Or I had. Can't lay my hands on the files now, but some googling on the 6HP would bring you to a couple of Jag resources.

Don't recall hearing of this issue, though.

I would suggest getting the transmission ECU read for codes.
My 6HP in my Jaguar XF at 155,000 miles as just perfection in every mode.

Try cleaning the internals of the micro switch. Just dowse it in contact cleaner.
Thanks for this. I am struggling to find a microswitch on the parts diagram. I have cleaned the contacts on the 'automatic gearbox display' module (222653).

Just a thought with the weather you haven't driven through any flood waters the wiring harness to the transmission under the car could have water ingress.
Came across that once when working at the Dealership.

Thanks for this. I am struggling to find a microswitch on the parts diagram. I have cleaned the contacts on the 'automatic gearbox display' module (222653).

It’ll all be part of the big lump of plastic at the bottom of the shift lever itself. MG reckons you can see it on the left.

BMWs quite often break the wiring loom from the lever as it can get trapped by the lever itself. Not sure if that can happen here.

Fixed!

I replaced the 'automatic gearbox display' module (222653) with a used one from Eurospares (£91) and everything is working fine again.
I had thought from the description of the part that this was just a display, but there are 2 fairly complicated circuit boards inside. Several of the soldered connections were broken, so I will get them re-soldered and offer the replacement work on ebay when it's fixed.
