Can You Use Jump Leads to Start A 4200??

Hi All

My car has been in the paint shop getting the front end freshened by some company that are doing me a favor. Because of this they are now taking the P**s as they said it would be 2 weeks...............Over 4 weeks later and I still don't have it back!!
I am beginning to think that the battery may have run flat with not having been used for so long, and I have heard stories about starting some cars with jump leads messing up electrics and causing damage.
Does anyone know if it will be safe to start my 42 like this worst case scenario???

No

Get it connected to a Ctek if it's staying on the car or take it off and charge it up

Ravpower booster charger or similar is supposed to be ok as the supply is steady and "doesn't spike" according to recent thread discussion.
Jump starting may or may not be ok. I had an issue frying an ECU on another vehicle a year or so ago but had done it several times previously with no damage.
Avoid it if possible I think is the answer.

If it is an emergency yes you can do it but if you have the time then CTEK or trickle it. Be mindful CTEK won't bring batteries below 5-6V back so you will need a fast charger with higher current to do that.

i presume the battery is in the back in the boot same as 3200? if so then best you dont do it. if the battery is faulty the voltage can spike and cause problems. i managed to break a couple of electrical parts on my 3200 many years back jump starting with a failed battery.

Doesnt the owner manual state how to start it with a flat battery? The Porsche has two separate points in the rear engine bay to jump start it (the battery is in the front). These points have a surge protector built-in to prevent blowing the ECU.

I think Maserati will have similar. The Porsche procedure and diagram is in the owners manaul. I'd have thought the same for maserati?

You really think German and Italian engineering is the same? :) I have never found any additional jump start points, or any helpful tips in the user manual? I only know its an issues after I did it and stuff got broken!

Chargers are fine but if you HAVE to jump start it, start up the donor vehicle then connect the batteries and wait. Let the 4200's battery charge a little first, this help prevents any surging currents. Keep the 4200 ignition off. Give it around 5 mins and then crank the 4200, if it doesn't start immediately, within 2-3 seconds, stop. Wait another 5 minutes and repeat, but this time raise revs on the donor vehicle. If it does not start, use a trickle charger or repeat the above but charge for 15mins. If still not joy change battery.

You can always tell if a 4200 has been jump started because there will be a message when plugged in saying "unknown power fault" or something like that . Better to dissconnect the battery and charge it . They have all been jumped at some point .

I have never ever seen that in my experiences especially when we had them hanging around at the Dealership outside in a compound.
On my own never had a flat battery.
