Nice as the granturismo is will it be different enough from the last one , I’d be reluctant to own the same car twice .

That is an interesting and fair point. I find myself missing my old cars, as modern alternatives become more plastic and soulless. Something new is fun though.

I think we should start a charity page , sponsor him to live stream trying to get into totally unsuitable cars , lotus Elise is a good one to start with

I had an S1 111s for 8 years and I'm 6'4 never had an issue, roof on or off. There is just a knack to it.
Infact still the best driving position car I've ever owned. If I slipped my foot behind the clutch pedal my legs would be straight.
Also did a tour to the Ring with my mate the same size and we found it surprisingly comfortable!

The RC-F is a quality piece of kit. Totally bulletproof build and a great NA engine.
Nearly bought an ISF a few years back.

You know the car is not going to surprise you with any big bills when Lexus will put a 2 year Lexus warranty on a 10 year old one for £995.......... so long as it has done less than 120,000 miles!

(edit - the ISF is only 795 for 2 years, the rcf is 995)

Check out the prices of an M/AMG once just the initial 3 year warranty has run out, never mind Maserati!

I'm liking the Lexus myself.
The newer LC500 to me has great lines and love the interior.

The CSL was one of the ones that got away for me. While I was going through my BMW phase I nearly bought one. Wish I had!

Wish I had kept mine Zep.......The sound, the way it went, those carbon seats......When it came out it was slammed for the asking price and lots said it wasn't worth what they were asking above a standard M3 but second hand it was such a great buy back then.....Paid 25k for mine and sold for 27k and now they are worth double that and some in some cases.......Still one of my favourite M3 shapes......

Alpina make a nice alternative to the M3 - softer but just as quick and stonking value for money. If an M3 I would look for a CS which is a good compromise between M3 and M3 CSL

Only thing on the Alpine wasn't it a full auto which back then put me off but as you say it was a great car. CS again also a great car and also starting rising in price.

Of the two mentioned here I think the Evora is easily the best driving of the lot and the Bentley probably the most special feeling. I keep an eye on the Evora market having test driven one a couple of times, they really are wonderful things to drive around in.

As for the Bentley, it has occasion and presence in bucket loads and has its own unique way of doing things which in a world of generic numbness is welcome. I am thinking of adding one to the family for this winter when the GTS gets put in it’s pyjamas. Good luck with the search. £30k can get you some wonderful cars.

I too, have never returned to a previously owned car, as the change feels more special.
However, I think the difference between an early 4.2 GT auto and a GT Sport MC-shift is significant.
When I drove an early 4.2, I was a bit dissapointed that the car I'd been saving for was a bit underwhelming and went elsewhere.
When the GT-S MC-shift came into budget a few years later, I tried again and fell in love and I'm now in my second one (now GT-Sport)

I'm not saying get one now, as it sounds like you have some itches to scratch first, but don't think it won't be different enough when the time comes, because I think it will.

I'd agree on the GT and QPV that the additional horses of a 4.7 over a 4.2 are significant and useful as the weight definitely blunts a 4.2 a bit. The QPV 4.2 is not slow but certainly doesn't feel quick.

With something like a 4200, GS, Vantage, R8 I think it is slightly different and circa 400bhp is enough as they are a fair bit lighter.

The difference between the ZF and MC is significant as well.

Agreed. The 6 speed ZF in the QPV was a ton slower and more sluggish than the 6 Speed ZF in the XJ bizarrely. Not sure if they are a different box or just software differences but the difference is night and day.

The shifts in the XJ are crisp, sharp and fast so it is a perfect box as a daily. Silky smooth auto and great fast manual paddle shifts if the urge is there.

Some years ago a mate on a Honda VFR 750 pulled up alongside a Bentley on a dual carriageway , lights changed so he gave it the beans.

next day at work he asked me what engine was in it , 6.0 twin turbo I think, why

I’ve left a lot of sports cars for dead on the east lancs road but that Bentley kept up with me right up to 130 , he couldn’t get past me but I could hear it in my right ear all the way

I looked on the Bentley website but all it said for bhp was “ adequate”

Another guy I know stopped to look at a continental at a dealer , the dealer said he could have it for the weekend , so he did , he was smitten with it , totally , he spent the next week trying to make the numbers work but couldn’t .

if I had a choice of 2 manufacturers , Aston or Bentley , 35k , and balls of steel it’d 100% be the Bentley

600bhp on the GT Speed.

Though in honesty I don't think your mate was fully committed given the wiki 0-60 is 2.4s....

Anyone can mash the throttle of a Bentley into the carpet, but hanging onto a bike at max throttle from a standstill is a feck sight harder (as well you know). A car has a load more rubber hanging onto the road.
