Yep, VAGCOM is the standard VW group stuff I believe. And the scuttle thing is spot on. Just like the 4200 :)

Same can be said of every high end car really.

Probably true, that W engine is good until it goes wrong and then it can be a nightmare as very few people, even VW, are experts on it. Might be different in Bentley indies but I know from when I had the W8 version in a Passat knowledge was hard to come by and parts even more so.

Cheers. Turns out I have two very highly respected indies within striking distance. And, of course, my great Alfa man.

Certainly no one seems to have any issues with parts supply, but time will, or may, tell!

The only thing I read on that thread that would give me a few sleepless nights was head gaskets aren't even in the parts bin , head gasket failure is probably rare but a write off if you're unlucky

Though if it 's still running you could try doing some subcontract DPD work in it

Mrs1963 used to be the depot safety/compliance manager at snetterton in Norfolk. You wouldn’t believe some of the things that happened to vans. For example; brand new sprinter hired in with 200miles on the clock and given to a supposed experienced agency driver. Said driver took it under a low bridge and peeled the roof off like a tin of sardines. :)

I spoke to a guy that was a depot manager for a parcel company, must be 30 years ago the depot was at the top of a hill with a roundabout at the bottom

An agency driver came to collect a fully loaded artic , Billy big balls , knew everything, not long passed his test

Set off down the hill but left the braking too late and couldn't change down , straight over the roundabout and on its side , he managed about ½ a mile in his first and probably last agency job
