C pillar badges

If your in the market for some C pillar (near the fuel cap) badges and have had a look on ebay, you'll find they are a very reasonable £40 for the pair....well Eurospares sell the for £7 each, Item 58:

http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=3&Mo=494&A=2&B=19432&S=

I found that the best thing to do is position the gas flap side first as you are limited by the flap position.

You only get one go at getting this right, and you need to remove all the traces of wax and dirt from the body to get a proper fix. The best thing to use is Zippo lighter fluid you can get from any newsagents for under a quid. Don't leave it on the paintwork for to long.

If you get some masking tape, create a border to exactly fit the badge into, the same widths both side making sure the arrow points forward.

You also need to get the badge at the correct horizontal level or rotation.

What I did was to place masking tape from the top and bottom of the recess, extending to the tail of the car. The 2 tape lines should cross at a point down towards the end of the rear wing, near the tail lights. This crossing or perspective point, should be used to put a third piece of tape from that crossing back to the arrow level.

This will then ensure both sides are consistent.

I know this is a bit fussy, but this is how I was taught to do it when I was a sign writer, many moons ago.

Hope this helps

Dem I will never understand why anyone would not have the pillar badges. For what they cost they lend so much class to the car

Conaero, since you cannot see both badges at the same time, there is room for slight error in the positioning. Its not like they are side by side for comparison, but I agree it is worth a bit of extra effort to position correctly. Perhaps making a template first would help.

Just to put the opposite view I went to great trouble to remove mine [from a 3200] since they're not supposed to be standard fitment. I reckon it looks classier without them and the pillars are much easier to clean!

Mmmm,
I am in a quandary about this one.
I like to leave mine as a virgin, but also like the look of the logos on the pillars.

Must do a photo-shop job to see which is best and then get on to Eurospares.

I think they look fantastic and finish off the car, especially if the car is a darker shade (I have them). Respect the purist 3200 view as well though.

Hi guys. My first post on this forum! Ok I got these badges put on when I had a bit of paintwork done by the local bodyshop. I was happy with them at first but now think they are not aligned well enough. The guy at the bodyshop thinks they're easy to reposition - carefully peel off with the assistance of heat (from a hair dryer - nothing too strong!) and they will stick back in the new place as good as before.

Any opinions on this idea? I don't want them falling off at high speed or peeling at the edges. Perhaps there's some kind of sticky stuff that I should also use?

Cheers,

Dm2, at £7 each, just get some new ones, besides, you can stick your old ones on another possession that does not go 190mph.......I have my old pair on the wifes *** cheeks.

(well, we will find out if she does spy on this forum now!!!!)

Another approach I have seen suggested (but not tried myself), other than hairdryer, would be to use fishing line to slice behind.

Thanks guys. Being economically aware, I might try the hair dryer approach first. If it doesn't give satisfactory results, yes I can easily buy a pair as they don't cost much at all. nfm - I had seen this suggested in the past as well, but I get the impression this would be a permanent removal..

I sliced mine off with very thin waxed string - no heat needed. I would suggest that the sticky stuff is NOT reusable. No resultant damage to the paintwork, easy to clean pillars and it now looks right - IMHO!

Before I got my 3200 I swore I would get the badges. But then I got my car and would never do it now. Better looking without them. Best left to the 4200s I think. 3200 has soooooo much character with boomers, vents that it doesn't need them. IMHO
