Buying a quattroporte

Hi everyone, I'm new to Maserati. I currently have a Lexus LS 430. I test drove a quattroporte yesterday. a black one for 10k. it was amazing to drive, I loved it. I would have bought it but it didn't have a service history and I know these cars are quite delicate so I didn't want to risk it. Was I right to walk away? is there anything else I should look out for before buying?

I recently bought my 2nd one with a partial service history, this is no issue so long as you seek the right advice! Contact @dickygrace (Richard Grace Cars) he might well know the car you drove and may be able to assist.

Although not exactly plentiful, they are not super rare either. So I'd not bother looking at one with no service history. They can easily throw up a £5k bill, so I'd want it checked by a Maserati expert before completing any purchase. For example, if you need the variators fixed, that's £3k on its own.

I think Somi from this forum is selling his blue QP for not too much more than this, and it is a known and well cared for example.

Although it may be the last thing on your mind now, missing history would make it harder to sell in the future... amd these are, at times, difficult to shift.

Also if it is a QP V ensure the sub frame is checked as they rust all to readily..

Ewan, Thanks for plugging my QP in.

Hi
I do not know what you are after but I do have my QP for sale.
Please see my ad here: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/my-04-mas-for-sale-£12-5k-negotiable.28400/
You are right that they are harder to sell but that is also true for many other cars of exotic marques at this time.

My QP has complete service history and all invoices/ receipts to support any work done.
It is my first Maserati and I have cherished it's ownership for almost 5 years now.
There is lots of details and pictures/ videos on the as thread.
If it looks / sounds tempting, please let me know.
Happy to discuss / answer any questions.

Just to let you know my QP replaced my much beloved LS400 :).

Thanks guys. I was actually thinking when it's time to sell it will be harder

A big warm welcome. I can fully understand why you are smitten with a QP. One of Maseratis best efforts. Such a beautiful car and one that can do the limo and then turn into a 4 door sports car. A car that big shouldn't handle so well and be so much fun.....and great value with prices so low. History or not though they are very hard cars to sell and can sit around for months and months and months as there are very few buyers for these amazing V8's. Buy well and you will not be disappointed. What year model are you looking at ?

Thank you Andyk. Selling it later is less of a concern but still something on my mind. My main issue with the lack of service was I know these cars can be quite delicate so felt uncomfortable going for one that I didn't know was properly cared for. I assume the parts are really expensive too.

A 2005 model. That's the one I was looking. A real beauty in black with the red callipers. Coming from my Lexus, it felt amazing, especially the gearbox.

Hi Sommi, that does look like a nice example and seems a lot louder than the one I tested. But I'm buying on finance so I'm limited to dealers. It's quite a step up from Lexus. Feels like a thoroughbred in comparison

Yes. The QP is in a very different league.
I am not the best person to advise on finance, but have found that Sainsbury's and such do great personal loans upto 25 k for very competitive APR compare to car loan companies or dealer finance.
You can also repay early to save even more on interest.
I have done this a couple of times. Dealers rates are generally 7% plus while you can get same money for 3-4% at a bank.
Then there is credit cards who let you borrow up to your limit for 0% interest. But 2% fee.
Hopefully this helps.
It just opens up your choices from where to buy a car.

I am negotiable on price but please do see if you can make time to see the car.
It also includes a new set of brake discs and pads all around, the upgraded Sport GT wheels as well the private plate MY04MAS.
The Larini system and FD DBW are the expensive and very desirable upgrades.
All that does add up to a good package and a unique QP.
There are no errors and fault lights. The car has always been on a trickle charger and under covers when not in use.
Apologies, I can go on and on.
But I assure you, once you see and hear it, you will appreciate the value.
Please call me on 07795404125. Happy to discuss further.
Thanks.

A good check on the MOT history can give an indication as to how well the car has been looked after and is worth doing.
Front subframe certainly wants a good check for rusting and corrosion.
Labour intensive and expensive to replace.

Sure you will getting a better deal on a personal loan than car dealer finance. Then you can buy private or dealer. Getting the car that is known by the forum is a good bet to.

Have you had a quote at that level? They often quote ‘representative APRs’

I have indeed! Wouldn't touch a bank with a barge pole now!

Their P2P lending is pretty impressive too. The loan is essentially broken down into about thousands of lenders all lending about 30p each.

I have just reduced the price on my 2009 QP 4.7S to £19750 on Autotrader. The car has just clocked 50,000 miles, has had a full service and MOT, has full service history and has had all the usual things fixed like new Variators etc. It is also a great colour combination. ( metallic black on cream leather seats and piano black trim). It also has the GTS grill and new GTS alloy wheels with red calipers. A beauty! It's currently housed at Shilltech ( Loughborough) so if you want to view it at anytime then just let me know and I can arrange it with them . All the best..

Have you seen the grey QP V with Nuvola? It's only done 3900 miles, so is "as new", and only £24k. It's depreciated at about £15 per mile! But that makes it cracking value for the next owner. Obviously the monthly repayments will be bit higher than a £10k car though.
