Hi,

I'm considering the purchase of a 1996 Ghibli but have some concerns regarding maintenance and service.

Anyone who can tell me from their own experience what I'm looking at when it comes to service, costs and breakdowns ?

It seems that on the internet there are mostly negative stories about horrible reliability issues and tremendous annual costs.

This scares me a bit. Not so much the cost (if reasonable) but mainly the breakdowns as I intent to use the car for my daily driving.
I expect to drive around 20k km per year.

It would be nice to hear from people who actually have a 1996 Ghibli.

A (nearly) 30 year old Maserati biturbo Ghibli is likely to cost you quite a bit in servicing and repairs, and things will break (replacements for which may then be difficult to source). To use one as a daily car, and do that many miles, is a brave shout.

I did this when these cars were new, and it was just about okay back then. But it is a different story now that the cars are old and parts are scarce.

But I wish you good luck and hope that you do it. Search for the hero inside yourself!

Ewan has it nailed, 20k per annum is a brave call. I recently asked a Fiat Dino specialist if he thought I could do 8-10k per annum in one he nearly had a heart attack.

Although saying that I did once use an Alfa SZ as a daily and clocked up 20k in one year but at the time it was only 15 years old.

as others have said, a 30 yr old biturbo as a 20k daily drive is not simply brave but charge of the light brigade brave imo! lol
