Bulb types

I've decided to upgrade the headlight and side light bulbs in my GS for something that will provide a whiter light closer to the HID/xenon look, however despite having searched the forum I'm struggling to find out what type of bulb fittings are used in the headlight (dipped beam and main beam).

I thought both dipped and main beam were H7, but I've seen a post on another forum that says that the main beam bulb is an H1.

I think the side lights are a 501 fitting (??).

Can anyone shed any light on the correct fitting types (pun intended!).

Cheers

I just replaced all of my globes on the weekend. I have a 2002 4200.

Main Beam: H1,
High Beam: H1,
Fog Light: H1,
Side Bulb: 12V 5W W2 (W5W),
Front Indicators: 12V 21W BAU15s (PY21W) - Orange globe, but I used the chrome look ones as they don't show up as much.

I hope that suits your purposes. Let me know if you need any help getting to or getting out the relevant pieces.

Adrian,

I went to Supercheapauto. I used:

Main Beam - Narva Intense Kit (H1) comes with the parking globes as well. White White light. AUD$69.98
High Beam - Calibre Extra Vision Blue (H1). AUD$36.53 (on special until 14/01/14)
Fog Light - Calibre Extra Vision Blue (H1). AUD$36.53 (on special until 14/01/14)
Front Indicator - SCA Automotive Globe - Invisible Indicator, Amber, 12V, 21W. AUD$19.98

All up was around AUD$160ish for all the globes. It does look a lot whiter that original, but no where near HID.

Richard, thanks for the info - really helpful. I'd read elsewhere that the fog lights were H9 but very few manufacturers seem to make an upgrade (I.e. White) H9 bulb. Knowing now that it is H1 I can order the same as I've already ordered for the dipped beam and high beam.
