Bubbling in fuel tank

Finally got the 3200 running again today.
Parked up after motorway blast and while sitting stationary in the car I could hear fluid bubbling/circulating in the fuel tank.
No leaks into boot. I opened the filler cap and it vented some high pressure vapour and then the noise stopped.
Has anyone else experienced this? Presumably the tank should vent somewhere or is there a non return valve which just allows air to be drawn in?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated

I have had the same thing happen on hot days in my 4200. The tank vents thru the vapour canister, that may need replacing

Yep carbon canister should be changed every 4 years on a GT/QP so I suspect your is ancient.

check the weight of new vs old when you do it.

Hmm I do swap the canister annually but this year the Quick joint clip on the union on the top started to leak so I replaced with new hose and jubilee
are they directional - maybe I put it in upside down?

The canister has an in and an out. Not sure that you could get it wrong. There’s also a valve in the vac line that’s electrically controlled. Might be worth checking.

It’s 3 pipes on the canister from memory, 2 large and a small

the large must be in and out and I can’t see it making a difference if you did put them on the wrong way round as it’s a box full of carbon balls. The small must be some sort of vent to atmos.

Suppose it could be conceivable that it’s one way valves but unlikely

They’ll be a baffle or something to stop liquid fuel getting into the inlet but I’m not sure Ian H is talking about the carbon can now. I think he might be talking about the fuel filter. I don’t remember quick release joints on the carbon can and you couldn’t put it in upside down.

Hi chaps
Sorry have been mixing things. I was indeed talking about the fuel filter in the boot (34 in diag.) which I think is a complete red herring.
The vapour canister (36 in diag.) is a whole new discovery / can of worms :)
Sounds like I need to dig mine out from under the wheel well and change - is it front passenger side?
Is the solenoid valve (35 in diag.) located adjacent to the canister or hidden elsewhere?

Eurospares have a canister kit for £1200 w.t.*** Fortunately they do just the canister and valve for ~£20 each stock permitting.

Ok so of course Maserati don't make the canister any more :(
It is a Fiat part # 46408670 - great.
But of course Fiat don't make the part any more.
Found a new old stock on e bay.
Thanks everyone for the help

Is there a way into these canisters? If is only carbon balls, activated carbon is dirt cheap.
