I switched recently to BT everything because I wanted one box, and one bill, and where I live only BT can do it.

There is no HD currently unless a movie that you download. I can't get ESPN or Sky sports due to signal weakness. The BT Vision system is very confusing and slow to use, and at first I thought the lack of choice of kids stuff would cause a riot...

However! It works out about half the price of the equivalent Sky+ package plus BT phone + Virgin broadband that we were on, and the kids hardly notice, and possibly actually watch less TV which is no bad thing. The Sports thing annoys my son but he has plenty to watch really. We love the record/pause live TV thing which we would have to get Sky plus for at questionable levels of expense - we don't watch that much TV but we like to watch the programmes we do like, at a time that suits us.

I don't think we'll be on the infinity service for a while, we don't officially get Freeview for another 2 years!!!

I kept the Sky box for Freesat channels,it has to be said the picture quality of normal Sky is dreadful, but it has been suggested that this has been done on purpose to exaggerate how good HD is. Our non-HD BT is much better than Sky, although there have been occasional signal problems and flickering.

In a two year deal and a couple of months ago I was getting irritated by BT, but it is growing on me.

with broadband your distance from the local BT exchange is what counts - under 1KM should mean you get good speeds, over 2KM means you might struggle. less than 500m you're laughing. Doesn't matter who supplies it, distance is the biggest predictor of the performance (followed several other things I won't post unless someone ACTUALLY wants to know). Best quality network overall is probably O2 right now. If anyone wants to know what they can get before they put their hand in their pocket, PM me your postcode and I'll tell you what you're in for!

They are installing a fibre optic cable plus we are about 2/3rds of a mile from the exchange.......quite like the concept of 1 provider for everything and streaming TV/on demand TV...plus we can get 51 of the 70 freeview channels and top up with a single sports channel.....................will think about it further.

You should be OK Frank - the new BT Infinity products actually connect via a converter (called a DSLAM) that gets installed in the ground somewher in your vicinity - the fibrefrom the exchange is installed to the this unit, aka the "kerbside" not your house as such (BT have such a product in trial, but it won't be a available for a wee while yet). This distance then becomes the predictor of speed (rather than the exchange) as your house connects to it over copper. This SHOULD be a reasonably short distance, but some will be unlucky no doubt as they will be on the borderlines of what is deemed "acceptable distance". Over a KM using this technology, whilst still high the speed drops off very quickly. Not sure how this will affect the Infinity service, yet. FWIW, BT uses a different technology to Virgin Media (who btw, still use copper to deliver many of their Fibre optic products!) which is probably going to be the better bet going fowards, for ultimate speed. Anyway, I don't think you'd do any harm waiting anotehr 6 months to see how it pans out.... I am!

hehe...nooooooooooo! to be fair, the fact that it's not "all" fibre doens't matter if you get the speed - we have a large client in Chelmsford running this technology (its called vDSL2 in case anyone else cares) who are 400m from the exchange who are getting 40Mbs download so that bodes well!

Excellent......they did their test off their web page....says 30mbs plus..........but might ask if they can recommend a person nearby whose had it installed to let me have a chat/look .......but thankfully things are moving on as regards bundled options here in rural NI.........bit stuck for competition.........and Rupert doesn't ring my bell...............................weak pun intended.....

:)
