Not really no, they barely let expats in here.
Around 20% of Kiwis live in Oz. That's well over half a million! I would class a lot of them as refugees. ;)

As for Aussie debt, $0.5 trillion Aussie dollars is probably nothing to you, Wattie. You could probably cover it with some sweepings from your massive hoard of bullion. ;)

Well my wife’s a kiwi and she certainly isn’t a refugee.
Aussie debt is ****** too, hence more gold.

If your safe's as big as my car do you live in a bank? Fort Wattie.

Anyway, I don't think you've told anyone to **** off and die. You seem like a sweet and lovin' man, so I assume not. My reference was more to the various immigration policies of different countries, which is a topic as thorny as any and, with hindsight (and much like a lot of this thread), at odds with the one shared interest much of us here have, which is, if I remember correctly, cars.
Unfortunately my safe is not is big as your car, nor is it as fast.....and it’s certainly not as sleek or as enviable ....probably weighs the same tho.
Let’s have a cuddle.....

If France was so nice then why does everyone in Calais want to move to the UK?
I really wish I knew the answer to that one.
They think the streets are paved with gold and they speak some English.
The French language is not easy as is their many systems.
I could not have got what I have done without my Ms French that's for sure.
Having said that many have settled here far more than in the UK.

Thanks for the answer. It was a bit of a flippant question but it's a difficult topic and could be easily be asked of all the EU countries which immigrants come through from Greece up.

I love going to France and cope ok with the language but I understand how getting things done locally with councils and utility providers can be very variable once you live there or own property there. Mind the stories friends tell me about paying simple things like 'council tax' on holiday homes in Italy make France sound easy in comparison.

Looking Good :(

No one heard of import substitution? All the media - especially the BBC - needs to go and look at what that means as that's what happens when you have tariffs. Things will be nowhere near as bad as the media advocates as consumers rationally react to differential pricing with their choices. The media would fail a first year Economics exam with the collective wisdom of a group of people who are so opposed Brexit they are doing all they can to misrepresent likely outcomes by trying to shock the public into mass hysteria.

PS Not expressing an opinion here, just pointing out what will happen after a few months of screaming.

A few decades back I got a degree in Economics from somewhere and we were taught about import substitution. Very well put Bob; almost every post on this thread are pure speculation, most are as you say to create doubt and hysteria.

so five former PM’s have now piped up, well they all did such a great job didn’t they...?

I reckon Education to day must be dumbed down today as nearly everyone goes on to get a degree and universities are everywhere.
In my day finishing school in 78 at 16 if you were clever you did 6th form then if you were really clever university.
School was not my thing and CSE certificates were worth nothing so apprenticeship it was.
I did apply to the Police too and passed the entrance exam doing a year in the Cadets good fun but not for me.
So I'm guessing the Media and Politicians today are educated but not to the level or standards to previous generations like say Bob above.

I think the issue is more how little respect the media has for most people in society. Also our adversarial form of democracy is now broken with the opposition and the media perpetually kicking the government that no sane person would want to be a politician. Go through several iterations of this and we have now got what we, collectively, deserve. One is no better than the other as they are all shambolic.

The media have long since seen everything and everyone as fair game - the clamour for instant answers to complicated questions and ideas, heroes to be built up and knocked down again, villains to point at when someone needs to be blamed, a constant game of playing both ends against the middle.... it's been like this for decades but is getting worse. Add to the mix the almost puritanical zeal of those at both ends of the political spectrum and you have the perfect recipe for more and more division.

Some media would have us believe it’s so claim benefits and live off the state, the reality is likely to be around our language and the fact they already have family here, so the more that come, the more that want to come.
