Brexit Deal

It is inconsequential, you are right. I'm curious as to why it would make the govt think that the will of the people (whatever that is) has changed. Even by the most generous margin it's less than a third of the people that voted either way.

If you throw in some massive assumptions about who and why is voting?

Well it's still growing...

Personally I've never seen anything like this in my lifetime, and I'm 57, the backlash is more than tangible, it's almost a Typhoon. Ignoring the whys and whatfors etc, even the most hardened Brexiter must be thinking this groundswell is massive. So rather than stick to the we-had-a-vote-and-must-honour-it why not consider something went wrong n 2016, remainers stayed in bed thinking it's never going to happen, and I could get my proxy vote in in time cos I was living in Ireland and it took too long and remain suffered because of that, other's too probs, Cameron called the referendum to appease UKIP and f*cked it up and then we had the actual banal question on the ballot slip.

Ok we had the referendum but what we are seeing now is not sour grapes, it's just not what we as a country want, it's patently obvious!

The other way of looking at this is defined by the availability error combined with confirmation bias. Plus you've got a gread chunk of generalisation thrown in.
In no way is that meant to be offensive (so apologies if you are offended) as we are all subject to these biases and issues. By which I include myself. I try to notice them (and probably fail most of the time, but I won't noticed because they are self protecting)

The moment someone says 'Everyone thinks such and such', or "Most people.....' I have to add 'I know' immediately after 'Everyone', or 'Most people'. We mostly associate with people that share the same views and thus without hard data, the statement is almost certainly invalid, no matter who makes it.

I get you, and in no way offended, obviously I'm a remainer, but like most I accepted the result, and planned my future around it. But now I see and we all see what's happening, and that now everyone thinks etc, 'it's really happening to ya....' to quote Kate Bush or more accurately her brother Paddy.....

Even ignoring the march and the petition etc, parliament and even the Connies are fighting with or against what is now popular opinion. If only we had a credible Labour leader, I though Corbyn having supported him for a long time would step up, epic fail. Starmer is good but lacks something.

If Wedgie-Benn was still alive and younger I reckon he'd be da man, and I don't even know if he was pro-EU or not!

few points.
'even the most hardened Brexiter must be thinking this groundswell is massive' - no, desperate though.
'why not consider something went wrong n 2016' -it didn't, the referendum was smoothly run and the votes counted correctly.
'remainers stayed in bed thinking it's never going to happen'- clearly passionate about the issue then at the time.
'the actual banal question on the ballot slip'- It was actually quite clear, leave or remain. sure it could have had a few more bells and whistles added but given a lot of remainers stayed in bed it wouldnt really have mattered.
'what we are seeing now is not sour grapes, it's just not what we as a country want"- i disagree.

Technically a lot went wrong. The Leave campaign has been ruled illegal, why people haven't been prosecuted yet is anyones guess.
If the campaign was a General Election they would have to run it again. That's the law.
Maybe it is because the referendum wasn't a legally binding vote that so much hasn't been made of this fact?

Done with this thread, nearly as bad as FB!
Maybe, it was always going to be contentious but it’s ‘remaind’ friendly (just) and all done with the SM humour....plus we’ve seen some great bangers.

If you must ‘brexit’ I understand.

Agreed, if you’ve gotta leave, you’ve gotta leave.
I admire DW for his restrained and subtle input and on behalf of SMRDP would like to award him an HRV.
Honorary Robert Vaughan,
Very coveted.
