I read a rather cheering article the other day (sorry, don't remember the author, etc) which said that the BREXIT process, rather than being a complete cluster-fook, was actually a demonstration of a robust and effective democracy carrying out the political process exactly as it should. The argument was that BREXIT is a very challenging topic, both within our own decision-making processes and with the complications of the narrow referendum result, the EU negotiations and the Irish border, and so it was inevitable that there would be no simple path to a solution. And that what we were doing was thoughtfully and democratically working our way towards some sort of compromise, a process which in other countries might have involved punch-ups in parliament, the absence of any government, multiple elections, rioting on the streets, and ultimately military intervention. Well done the UK, well done Parliament!
There. Now you feel better.
