With 10,000 lorries going through Dover each day, you only need a slight delay to things and they're queuing down the M20.
So if a lorry takes 30 seconds to clear customs now (apparently), and will only take a few minutes, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out that queues of lorries will be inevitable.
The knock on effect of quadrupling the time to clear customs will cause havoc!
It might only be a few minutes, but a few minutes for 10,000 lorries means chaos on the roads.
Have you ever heard of pre clearance. They can be cleared as soon as they are rolling off the ferry.
So you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure out there is no need for a delay and as i said its the way it used to be done with no delays and no massive queues or chaos on the roads.
The only trucks that should be delayed are ones that have been pulled for either a document or physical exam.
There isnt an apparently about the procedure now. I was at the forefront at the transisition stage from C10s and C12 to the SAD C88 document and its various changes and short form versions since.
We can either talk ourselves into doom and gloom or we can get on with it and make sure everything works as it should.
Milenium bug syndrome all over again.
To some extent we did the same thing in 2009 with the recession. All the news chanels were reporting daily on the doom and gloom that was going to hit the UK and how it was already in full swing in the USA. The net result of the scare tactic reporting was people stopped spending which in turn slowed the UK economy even more.
Whatever happened to the stiff upper lip mentality and crack on and get on with it.

Bummer, I haven't got any. Does Wattie recommend them?We will know soon enough and can stop dealing in hypotheticals.

Europe’s not dead but it’s totally reliant on more Ponzi, none of which has done anything for a decade other than pretend everything is fine and dandy.

To be fair, and avoiding any discussion about Ponzi schemes (read QE), the way Hungary and Poland are behaving is a bit rubbish. “We want the money but f@uk you”. Never saw that coming.Europe’s not dead but it’s totally reliant on more Ponzi, none of which has done anything for a decade other than pretend everything is fine and dandy.

Doesn’t really address the issue of which Christmas cake to choose

Nah, Wattie says 'pass'.I know a bloke down the pub who can get you some!
Recommend what?
I’ve had a look and ain’t following the thread.......I recommend leaving.
I think you should really pay for it, though.Big fan of “Stollen cake” as I’m a marzipan nut.
All it needs if for somebody to “accidentally” shoot somebody somewhere....I do believe they’re entitled to “veto”. That’s why they get a vote......
Back to the drawing board.
The crux of the matter is that Europe involves a whole number of countries that shouldn’t be part of its stupid Euro system......they totally ****** up its constituent parts. All it needs if for somebody to “accidentally” shoot somebody somewhere....
Veto because one version of rights doesn’t agree with another. These are dodgy times.
I think you can replace the word Europe with UK, and ECB with BoE... will be all the same. Any economy that cannot balance a budget (foolish thinking the UK can) borrows until the cows come home.Europe’s not dead but it’s totally reliant on more Ponzi, none of which has done anything for a decade other than pretend everything is fine and dandy.
