Parliament was due to close anyway its just made it 4 days longer. They’ve not managed to make a decision in 2 years, what difference will 4 days make.
Yup, it’s normally in recess during conference season....but lets all cry about it cos it ruins our plans to block leaving.59782

UK is the laughing stock of Europe (and the rest of the world) right now... sad sad state of affairs.
A friend of mine (now ex-friend) a Brexiter said to me about the Irish border today (bearing in mind I'm half Irish and he knows it and I'm living in Dubs now) - "Give NI back to the Irish and that will stop the dross entering the UK via that route".

The UK had made enormous strides over the last 30 years encompassing the rights of all, gay, black, brown so much so now I'm proud to say at 58, I not bothered if the person sat next to me, or my mate, or anyone is anyway inclined that way, it's their choice, and it's perfectly natural, but now I fear we're Germany 1936, Boris is pushing his Enabling Act, we're going backwards because Brexifear has turned a lot into NeoNazis, just look!

How can an unelected PM block a parliament of elected MPs?? Oh and tell the queen what to do... is that not shocking anybody? How is that not unacceptable to normally wired people?! Hiding behind consistutionality claims is just pathetic.

I have just spent the past 30min Reading the comments under the latest Brexit article on BBC. The brutality of the comments on there and the clivage of opinions is truly demoralising.

This vote and its catastrophic interpretation is about to split this country wide open. If a severe recession was also to ensue, it will really set us back... not just economically (and who cares at least on this forum, as we’re all fairly well off, definitely middle class) but socially. It would take decades to rebuild a national unity and sense of self belief as a nation.

How did we end up here?

It’s like a horrible car crash happening in slow motion!

"Parliament will now sit for little more than a week from 3 September, before breaking until 14 October, when a new Queen’s speech will be held setting out what Johnson called “a bold and ambitious domestic legislative agenda for the renewal of our country after Brexit”.
In practice, given MPs do not sit on most Fridays, they are only likely to lose between four and six sitting days in parliament. MPs would have been due to hold conference recess anyway, from 12 September until 7 October"

Overhyped, overstated, nonsense by Remainers who have had their little scheme to derail things upset. Very clever of Johnson as it keeps him a step ahead for now. Cant understand why people are bleating about him saying he wouldnt do it etc....you never tell your opponent what you're going to do- you lose the element of surprise then.

Whats even funnier is some of these Remainers wanna stay in Europe but leave the UK!!! Sturgeon.

You'd struggle to make it all up!

What on earth makes you think he told the Queen what to do.

Tellingly (at least for me) there was a female MP who said early in the reports yesterday something like '......and he's put the Queen in a terrible position'

Not been repeated in any of the broadcasts I've seen. I rather suspect someone told her the Queen has better advisers than just about anyone, but what do I know.

The queen is nutral politically. She always approves what she is asked to do by a PM.it’s protocol and a formality.
If she was to refuse then she becomes apolitical.
This is more total bo1llocks from the remainer stop Brexit MP clan who frankly are a bunch of sneaky shysters who have simply been smartly out-shystered by someone who ain’t as stupid as they all think he is.
I’m glad he’s finally standing up for the Uk.

There's no comparison with Germany circa 1936 imho and tbh I don't think it does the Remain camp any good with comments like that and only makes people like me in the neutral camp think 'Are all the other scare stories regarding when we've left the EU bulls**t too?'

Wattie - I think if BJ was stabbing someone you’d call it self defence and totally acceptable.
Amazed how this anti- democratic move doesn’t shock you, I guess democracy isn’t a requirement for everyone.

I suggest we submit a poll and let people vote if they want a threadxit :)
That’s a good idea, we can then ignore those with the winning total and keep going as is.
How does that sort of democracy sound to you? (See below)

I don’t see or read anything heated or worthy of shutting the thread down at the moment.

BJ isn’t proposing anything wild or radical, it is a normal cycle of events for the conference season he is nearly extending it a week or so.

If anyone cares to listen again to the Geremy Vine show of yesterday they covered just this with various MP’s and advisors and I was shocked at the guarded underhanded BS from the remainders that they have yet another coup planned to derail the whole thing but that they are keeping their powder dry. Are their ‘interests’ in the EU so precious?
