If that were actually the case, surely all of these companies would be closing down rather than moving out of the UK?

Most Brexiters said we would be in recession once we leave, Rees-Mogg reckons it will take the UK 20 years to recover.

In recession companies scale back their operations. The list above are moving, rather than scaling back.

Another step closer to my individual remain in Europe plan, wife and children now registered in Ireland, which means the children can take up their places in school after the summer. Spent the week looking at houses and based on what we have seen might be putting our UK house up for sale in the next few weeks.

As an example, selling ours and paying off the mortgage would allow us to but something like this outright (including us tripling the size of the garage).

But apparently, it’s got nothing to do with Brexit.

The Honda story and all this is a great example of 'confirmation bias'. If you 'know' that Brexit means companies will pull out of the UK, then whenever a company does something that looks like 'pulling out of the UK' then that just 'confirms' what you 'know'. It doesn't matter if Honda explicitly states that it is nothing to do with Brexit (and there is good evidence that it is for other reasons), or that Dyson already has most of its manufacturing in Malaysia and that re-incorporating in Singapore has no impact at all on its manufacturing in Malaysia, or on jobs in Malmesbury, or on its trading relations with the EU, etc, etc, you still just 'know' that it is caused by Brexit.

Fantastic Andy; shame it has been photoshopped with no rain and blue sky...

Seriously, good luck with the move, I’m sure the lifestyle change will be great for you and the family.

That does look nice, Andy.

I can see the attraction in Singapore, not least of all the 15% taxes.

My missus watches some programme about lottery winners houses in the US, and having seen what you can buy over there for relatively 'little' she has come up with the idea that moving there in a few years is a good idea.

Having said that, as long as you don't move to California or New York you do get a **** of a lot for your money!

Maybe they don't think that making money out of thin air on property is a good idea? ;)

If housing prices are a function of earnings and desirability then I can assume that lots of 'low-priced' parts of the US offer limited employment potential or are just a bit **** (Detroit, for example, q.v. the recent Grand Tour episode), unlike lots of parts of CA or NY, which are beautiful / desirable / prestigious / offer the potential to earn well locally etc etc. Add to that, some places are simply less expensive to live in than others. If I moved to Singapore I would pay a boatload less tax and my overall cost of living would be around 15-20% less, all other things being equal. Actually probably more, because cars are stupid money so I wouldn't have any. So if this Brexit debacle and the continuous exhausting, tedious bloody infighting continues I shall pack my bags and feck off for a year.

The place she showed me was near Nashville, and $250k got an absolute mansion! 6 bedrooms, 4 garages (that got my interest) 4 acres of land and a pool.
It looked lovely. Nearest neighbour was about half a mile away! Perfect!

What's that £200k in GBP? Be lucky to get a 2 bed semi without a garage for that where I live

Just got this email from my daughters insurers.

Vital information if you are planning on driving in the EU after 29thMarch

As you will no doubt be aware there is a possibility that the UK may leave the EU on the 29thMarch 2019 without a Withdrawal Agreement in place – a no deal Brexit.

If this happens, and you either plan to drive in the EU after the 29thMarch or will already be driving in Europe after this date, you will need to ensure you are carrying a physical Green Card. These are provided by us directly on request.

Green Cards will be required under EU regulations as proof of insurance for anyone driving their vehicle in any country within the European Economic Area (EEA) and also Andorra, Serbia and Switzerland. A full list of countries is available here. If you are driving in the EEA or other countries listed without a Green Card you may be breaking the law. Please note that you may not be permitted to enter the countries you are visiting, unless you are carrying a Green Card with you in paper format.

Who might be affected?
  • Those planning on taking their vehicle to Europe over the Easter holidays or those driving across the Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland border
  • Those returning to the UK from Europe
What you need to do
If you will be driving in the EEA, Andorra, Serbia or Switzerland after the 29thMarch you will need to apply to us for your Green Card. The Green Card will need to be sent to you through the post so please allow 15 days to apply before you plan to travel and ensure your policy address is correct.

Please email us the following details:
  • the start and end date of your journey
  • the countries you are going to visit
  • your policy number
  • your address
The Green Card is an extension of the policy so if there are any changes to the policy details, including address, driver or vehicle cover details please let us know.

Visit the Government website for more information about Green Cards.

International Driving Permit After the 29thMarch 2019 your driving licence may no longer be valid by itself when driving in the EU. If there is a no-deal Brexit you may need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) to drive in the EU. This document must be carried with you, together with your UK driving licence when driving in the EU. There are different types of IDP depending on which country you are visiting so check to see which one you will need.

If you do not have an IDP you may risk being turned away at the border or other enforcement action, e.g. a fine.

International Driving Permits are NOT provided by your insurance company. To find out more about them and how to obtain one, visit the Government website, click here.

Visit our FAQs on a no-deal Brexit.

Kind regards

Of course there will be and are going to be consequences (immediate and also unseen/ far reaching) to our departure, we’ve known this since and well before the referendum. Shocker Alert! Just because we are British, what makes us think we should get special treatment when we leave? 17.4 million apparently “well informed” people voted to leave, wanted “it”, so there you go............watching Our country, Labour and the Tories imploding and splitting up.. oh what fun NOT!! P.S where have the booblies gone, defo cream then jam on a scone and you can’t eat gold bullion when you’re **** poor but otherwise keep calm and carry on eh because we’ll have our “sovereignty back” apparently .....

For some, wiping clear the complacent self centered decades old, was enough incentive, and the unknown was a risk worth taking, remember also it's not all about money to some people.
