Boot lid stuck and battery disconnected!

I had a flat battery & (unbeknown to me at the time) a broken manual release. If you look at the boot striker plate (once the boot is open...) you can see the release lever has an upright metal tab with a black plastic bit pushed on that connects with the lever on the boot lid latch. On mine the plastic bit had snapped off & I found it in the storage hollow in the boot liner, so pulling the release lever ring thingy was achieving nothing. I glued it back on but then replaced the striker as it wasn't too bad price-wise. Thanks to Scuderia for the photo.

To get in I opened the bonnet, removed the upper N/S cover panel, opened the fuse box lid (1/4 turn fixings), pulled out the +ve terminal & used jump leads from another car with the earth just on the chassis frame. Took a while to get enough juice flowing, it wouldn't go initially. When it did I had the usual stack of electrical warnings & the boot still wouldn't release, but after a short drive all was back to normal. I boiled the cr@p out of the battery on a full charger & since then with a solar trickle charger plugged into the diagnostic socket (it lives outside) it's been fine.

I know some would say you shouldn't jump it like that but I'm sure that's what the +ve post is for! I'd already had the back seats out to see if I could get in that way but it's all sealed off.

Sure you chaps know all of this, but hope it helps.
