My Sonny Levi designed Settimo Velo - Volare - that I restored about 10 years ago. 60s vintage, built by Canav in the Bay of Naples out laminated mahogany. I put in 2 x V6 Mercruisers with sterndrives and new aluminium fuel tanks. She’s had 2 subsequent owners and is still in use in the Solent …

Loved the boats I've had but boy you can spend some money on them.
I I had to break down id rather it was on the roadside than out out Sea that's for sure.

My middle son is making his career in superyachts and the numbers are scary. It seems acceptable to take a normal product and put 'marine' on the label and charge 10x the price! He is currently on a smaller yacht but that uses 1200 litres an hour as it travels around the med. I may be wrong but I believe you budget 10% pa of the purchase costs. I suppose it makes sense if you consider it is like taking a beautifully finished machine and sitting it in salt water every day!The best quote I heard recently was that you need to be rich enough to give your superyacht away if you want to own one.

I am out on one of these tomorrow, nice trip from Poole, should be good fun, but pleased not to be the one paying for fuel.

Maybe 1 mpg, if you take it steady.
We have two american 5.7 lt. V8 turbo petrol engines in our boat, so you can imagine how much they like a drink!
