For Sale is 007 star Sean Connerys 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL.
££ flush after being paid for Diamonds Are Forever, in July 1973, Connery treated himself to a new Polaris silver 3.0 CSL via BMW main agents Pennine Motors of Dewsbury Rd Leeds. He registered it to his embankment flat over looking the Thames, in Chelsea. We think that he kept it for 3 years.
He had previously owned a scruffy 356 Porsche in circa 1963, a green 1964 CV8 Jensen In 1967 via Follets and a grey Bentley S.2.

In October 1980, this CSL was featured in Old Motor Magazines definitive CSL history feature, by Motor magazines Roger Bell. Bell was lent the car by then owner Newcastle based bussinessman Frank Hedley, for what Bell described as “ A Week of fabulous motoring”.

This CSL is now dismantled to a rolling shell for Full restoration. This is a Matching Numbers car. It's engine was Fully rebuilt some years ago, which included the fitment of a Schrick 282 cam and has covered little mileage since. A selection of New body panels are included. We can project manage the restoration for you via Miklos @ CSLs Garage in Hungary. Miklos is the worlds leading CSL restorer.
£79,995. World wide delivery is available.
Serious Buyers please contact us on 07783 479958 thanks

Love the E9 range, one of the last of the delicate styling BMW did in the late 60s early 70s and the CSL is the pinnacle of the road versions.

Emblem had a stripped CSL in the workshop a few years ago, they were discussing with the owner rebuilding it not sure if they did or not.

It’s not a James Bond car, it’s a Sean Connery car, and in value terms that makes a huge difference. Nice car though. But the added value of having Sean’s name on the log book isn’t all that significant.

Best lines
Diamonds Are Forever

Bond: “Well, I’m afraid you’ve caught me with more than my hands up.”

Goldfinger
***** Galore: “My name is ***** Galore.”

Bond: “I must be dreaming. You’re a women of many parts, *****.”

The Man with the Golden Gun

Bond: “Pistols at dawn; it’s a little old-fashioned, isn’t it?”

Francisco Scaramanga: “That it is. But it remains the only true test for gentlemen.”

Bond: “On that score, I doubt you qualify. However, I accept.”

Die Another Day

Mr. Kil: “I’m Mr. Kil.”

Bond: “Now there’s a name to die for.”

For some strange reason I can see FC acting these out.

I would agree, famous previous owner is interesting, and adds a “saleability” factor, not sure it adds value.

not an expert on these motors, doesn't seem in bad shape and not an unreasonable asking price looking at what's being asked for fully restored ones, wonder what these Miklos people would charge to get it restored??

Had my red CSL Lightweight batmobile for a couple of years, went through WXW Tyres for a past time. Dodgy brakes, nightmare in the wet, and fragile engine when pushed to the limit. Prone to dropping valves if over revved.

Not sure if Sean Connery on the log book would do anything as he has turned into a miserable git in his old age.

Suprised re your comments. Yes, the OE equipment Michelin XWX tires that BMW chose to fit to the CSL were not good in the wet, hard compound meant they lasted for ages. My cars spare still has one fitted.
As for dodgy brakes, the 4 wheel vented disc set up is still good for a car weighing circa 1260 kgs, but the right hand drive servo set up, must be in A1 condition.
Re frajile engine, sorry but you must have been unlucky, ive never known the 3 litre engine to drop valves. My great pal has run 2 CSLs for over 30 years, without any problems. The only known weakness is that the pre 1974 cylinder heads were prone to cracking after about 70,000 miles. The 74 on heads have re designed water ways.
The CSL ( like the MK1 3 Litre Capri ) was a hooligans car, its engine just begs to be revved @ every occasion!
As for Connery, love him or hate him, guy is an icon and an A list celebrity.
Any provenance like this adds $$ / ££ to the value. Mcartneys 65 Radford Cooper S made £182,000 last year, Ringos Cooper S made £104,000 ( Gerry Halliwell bought it )
Connery sold some jewells in 2015, they made way over their $ estimate.

Any photos of your CSL and what was its build number ?

I assume he knows the car and what's required to get it up and running, any ball park figure??
