I think it's intentional... if it is constantly broadcasting a pairing signal then anyone could connect and f with you.

I believe you are conflating pairing with connecting?

I agree, it really shouldn't be necessarily ready to pair but connection should be pretty seamless.

Thank you once more, you guys are amazing.

My total cost for this has been c.£340 - for the most thorough service you can get really! A normal service doesn't seem to cover half this stuff, and costs several times more.

To give something back would it help if I listed all the parts and part numbers for the service so they're in one place?

From http://scuderiacarparts.com :
Air filter - Part number 186183 £35.62
Oil filter - Part number 188814 £18.30
1xSump crush washer (part number 10261860)
1xOil tank drain crush washer/gasket (part number 675000691?)
1x OR gasket (part number 133938)
2x Gear drain box fill washer (part number 10263460)
1x gearbox oil filter washer (part number 11199277)
1x Gearbox oil filter o ring (part number: 182119)
The washers total about £10.

From Opie Oils:
Oil - Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 x 8 litres £54.16
Gearbox oil - Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75W90 x 4 litres £50.33
Coolant - Motul Ungul Optimal car antifreeze. Phosphate-free (VITAL), x 5 litres £20.79
Denso IU24 spark plugs x8 £63.04
Pollen filter - Denso cabin filter DCF046K £10.92

Specialist Tools:
Laser 4236 86mm 18 flute oil filter wrench, £7.31 Ebay

500ml oil suction gun - £4.67

Are you aware you can get 10% discount at Opie Oils using the code MASERATI at checkout?
Unfortunately not in conjunction with any other discount.

Replace all the lambdas if it’s not been done along with the plugs. This will make a huge difference as will clean fluids and a good detail.

Congrats BTW!

Partial success this weekend - got everything except the engine oil changed, as not all the washers had arrived.

While I had the windscreen wiper array off I took the opportunity to freshen up the faded plastic. I used U-Pol etch primer, BMW black paint, and automotive lacquer to bring it to a shiny black finish. It’s not perfect but it does really lift the exterior for minimal effort and cost! I know, I now need some nice black anodised screws but don’t know where to find them.

I also got the leather clean. I didn’t take any before shots stupidly, but it was so dirty it felt dank and depressing. I didn’t want to sit in it, and the steering wheel was sticky with old sweat. They’re a bit worn, but not too bad in my view.

I used Dodo Juice SNLC500 with a soft bristle leather cleaning brush for the leather, and I can happily say it is amazing. Must be quite aggressive, so use carefully, but it made very light work of the decades of grime.

Does anyone in the Dulwich area of London have an OBD2 reader I could borrow tonight? I’m supposed to be going on a weekend away tomorrow eve but she’s thrown up a CEL! Engine still seems to run fine.

Thanks,
Ollie

Can you make it to your nearest Euro Car Parts today?

https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/...d-D7OeZaOo6W8ruy1Dkyj5ymeDinDDgAaAsoeEALw_wcB
https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/...SkdPrbosZAqha7m430gXOCf0Cx5bATI8aAiVBEALw_wcB

If not Halfords have them for around £65, it is worth having one in the tool chest.

If the engine is running fine I'll put 50p on it being an exhaust related code.

Get hold of Voicey at AV Engineering, he may be able to get to you this evening (slim chance as he is stacked out)

Many thanks for the recommendation! I can't get to one but they do offer next day delivery so one is coming to my office tomorrow. Cutting things fine, but that's part of the fun right?!

Original thread here.

So this weekend I'm going to try to spruce up the interior and do a bit of servicing work on my lovely new 4200.

I was thinking:
  • gearbox oil
  • brake fluid
  • air filter
  • engine oil/filter

  1. Is there anything else pressing on a 90k mile car that's due a service? Do spark plugs really make a big difference?
  2. Who do you recommend as suppliers of these parts? I'm looking at a combo of Scuderia and Opie oils but I'd like to get them in one place - plus neither supplies the crush washers or other washers/seals I need for the various oil changes.
  3. Crush washers - does anyone have the dimensions of the washers for (a) the fill and drain plugs on the CC gearbox, and (b) the sealing washers on the engine? I know the latter requires one 22mm and one 18mm (interior diameter) but there's nothing about thickness and outer diameter.
  4. One question I haven't been able to answer is which oil to use in the gearbox? My research suggests I need transaxle oil as the diff shares the same casing? So would this be the right stuff? https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-6363-c...synthetic-car-gearbox-oil-formerly-taf-x.aspx
I've also noticed I have a small box in the boot labelled 'Loudlink', and a Belkin Bluetooth transmitter. However, I can't get my phone (iPhone 7) to see any such Bluetooth network when the ignition is on. Are there some set up steps I would need to take to make this visible?

There are some great guides that I'll use to carry out the work - thanks again to everyone on the forum for the wealth of knowledge!
Was your aston really orange?

Okay, I’ve simultaneously got: p0421 p0431

- Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

- Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

The CEL came on half way through a long motorway run.

I’ve erased the codes but the CEL is still on.

Does anyone have experience of this? Thanks!

You probably have a secondary air problem. Rusted pipes, a hose off or the pump isn’t working.

The secondary air system pumps air through the valves either side of the head to heat up the cats more quickly.

Thanks! Will the car be damaged driving like this until I can get to a garage?
