BTW I'm toying with the idea of selling mine. Love it to bits. Has been looked after by Emblem and other specialists. About 28k miles. No rust, incredibly clean and sorted, colour is verde tundra with beige interior. LHD auto 2.8 very early GT. Really a gorgeous thing.

No enough pedals I’m for me I’m afraid, and I’m really set on a Cup.

This seems a bit cheap but the French Biturbo/Ghibli market is even cheaper than ours https://www.classicdriver.com/node/919114

"Toying" was the operative word ;)

Not sure if I could actually ever get rid of it.

I don't think that ad's indicative of the market, I'd look to the car to query why it was so cheap. Reckon something isn't obvious.

Sorry to say Nayf but with these cars, now more than ever, finding a good one for a great price is incredibly difficult. I was searching for about 2 years before I found mine, which was 7 or 8 years ago when they were a lot more plentiful...

Estimates are always lower with these auctions. Just a way to trigger potential bidders instead of scaring them of. I would not be surprised if the reserve price is in the 20s…..or as mentioned above there is something wrong with the car but 15-18K for a decent manual is a price of a decade ago…

Normally I’d agree with you completely, but if you look at Leboncoin all the biturbo variants other than the Shamal appear to be at a fairly significant discount compared to Germany, Italy, the Netherlands etc

The cup aren't cheap in France. And you will not find a cheap ghibli GT.

The last ghibli cup (a blu francia by the way) was sold in France during the summer 21.
Asking price was 63k€ for 95.000km (almost 60k miles), sold in 2 months (I don't know the final price, probably just south of 60k€).

No I know, Cups are worth nearly twice the price abroad. I’m after a particular Cup in RHD that will require some work, but still no success. Annoyingly he’s active on Instagram, just doesn’t want to reply. Hmmm
Might go back to plan B…

I guess it depends on what standard you’re looking for. You’d probably need to spend at least the asking price again to get it running properly and do a very basic bodywork tidy up. If you wanted everything done properly it would probably run to £20k+. Probably worth it on a LHD car as they are sought after and appreciated in Europe and often go for €25k+. Despite their rarity in the UK, unfortunately they’re little known and not seen as sought after other than by anoraks such as us who appreciate them for what they are.
Well someone had to do it..
After much pondering and a couple of visits to view I've decided to take the plunge. As a first time Maserati owner I thought joining up here should be my first step!

To be fair it's probably better than it looked in the photos on Ebay. It mainly needs work on the suspension/steering, brakes, interior, engine..
I'm just about to start smartening up the interior of a Spyder that I have and I'm not looking forward to the bill!

Well done Paul and good luck with it! The reg' number is two digits away from the original number of my 430, 'K24 NCR' ;).

No pain, no gain...!
I’m a little jealous, honestly. What a gorgeous thing that is.
Good luck with it....!

You, my sir, are an absolute hero. I was wondering where it had gone from the various sites. Best of luck and keep us updated on how it's going!

Thanks for the support, I think I'm going to need it!
The plan is to check what parts are needed now, then get it up to a mot-able state, leaving the cosmetics until it's up and running properly. Having said that the first things on the parts list are a new boot lid - with the correct 3 piece spoiler if possible, and a pair of front fog lights. The seller unfortunately robbed them for his Thema 8.32!
As a life long Alfa fan it pains me that I'll be selling my lovely 3.0 GTV busso to fund the project, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Alas Myles didn't have any pointers.
I'll check in with Mark Donovan. DVLA route will inevitably lead to nowhere. Instagram call might have to be it...

You are a braver man than me.
Took mine to him years ago for Servicing;
It idles a little high
£750 later he agreed that it did !!
Mot was always plus VAT
Every time he saw the car he put new wipers on it - these cars never see rain....

A little bit of knowledge seems to cost a fortune.

Here we go then.. The troubled 222 was running on 5 pots at low revs when I viewed it, but the seller assured me it wasn't before he changed the rotor arm, cap and leads. I asked him to do a compression check the following day which he did and reported back. As a mechanic I was somewhat worried about the low results, between 85 - 95 psi, but he said that was about right for such a low comp/ratio engine. Importantly there wasn't much difference between them all.
Now it's in my hands I've been investigating further, it's No 6 cylinder, nothing happening at all, or at least below 2,500 rpm. I've swapped the plug and lead, no difference, done my own compression test which wasn't much different to his.
Next step is the injector, it was stood with stale fuel for years before he fired it up, so I'm guessing/hoping it's that.
I'm supposed to be getting the Alfa GTV ready for sale but it's worrying me!
In it's favour, it starts from cold instantly and doesn't smoke at all when hot.

What’s the rear suspension/underbody like? Spoke to Andy H about the car and he worked on it/knew the car when it was clobbered into a CAT C. Said it was extensive!
And have you had a look at the bulkhead/leading edge of the bonnet?

The underbody and rear suspension look ok, surface rust but nothing looks out of line. The bonnet is a bit crusty too underneath, no sound deadening left, but not bent or from what I can tell full of filler. From what I've seen of the bulkhead it's thankfully ok.. The crash damage was o/s rear corner, it's not a pretty repair inside but the decent paint job and colour hide a lot. It can be tidied up at a later date, like when I find a better boot lid.
It's the mechanics that are concerning me now!

It's a 222 4v, isn't ? Beautiful car. For n°6 check also the position of the distributor, the rotor arm spark can reach another cylinder plug at low advance. Besides the new rotor arms on the market are sometimes bad copy. You may ask who is the seller and get the old one..
