Pretty good there, it was Valerio BIanchi, Giuseppe MOrri, and Massimo TAmburini.

But what about CA-GI-VA and Aprilia? (clue for the first)

Didn’t know Cagiva name was made up the same as Bimota but here goes.
The name Castiglione comes to mind but I don’t know why.
Giacomo Agostini?
Surely not Valentino Rossi?

Very close.
The Castiglioni brother's father created Cagiva in Varese.

Therefore CAstiglioni GIovanni Varese.

Aprilia anyone?

I saw Giacomo Agostini racing with Phil Read in 1976 at Mallory Park at the pre TT meeting
It was fantastic...
The MV was miles faster around Gerard's but the Honda was better over the whole lap
Great times!

Nice to see the appreciation for Bimotas here...though no real surprise - Maseratists being suckers for Italian design flair / engineering / pleasure / expense / pain. * delete as applicable.

Good news from the refurb (so far) is the bike is 'a time warp' and in great nick. Good to know that spending £20k on garages to keep the thing dry all these years was worth it!

Wow, just wow. Imagine Marc Marquez and Rossi popping up at the Anglesey circuit just before they got on the ferry to the IOM?

A man took away my bike today, to recommission then sell. Its been under a dust sheet for 20 years waiting for 'the right moment', which never really came. Now, with a GranSport needing rust repairs (and maybe rinkydink new suspension) its time to move it on. My wife helped with the decision, using technical phrases such as,View attachment 81976 'old git', 'dreaming', 'how many hobbies do you you need' and 'you look after the kids, I've had enough.' I pointed out that Maserati owners are, at heart, romantics, but that seemed to trigger a throwing response so we agreed to leave it there.

So that's one expensive and impractical Italian has gone so another can keep on going. A growing up moment of sorts. Maybe!
your wife is very direct

Hello Chums,

Been a while. Had the Bimota fully recommissioned, then ummed and arred about selling it - because it looked soooo good. But - the reality is I'm not likely to get the chance to ride it often and don't now have anywhere nearby to keep it. So...at last...after 25 years...dammit...its up for sale:

Did it sell for £5k? I know nothing about its value, but that doesn’t sound a lot for something so rare and beautiful, that you had stored for 25 years and had recommissioned.
If the sale hasn’t gone through, contact me and I’ll see if I can bid you more.

£5k seems very low but like Ewan I know nothing about bike values but my dream sculpture, Ducati 748R (in yellow), seem to be £10k plus

Doesn’t seem a bad price at the moment tbh. The market is terrible and Bimota don’t fare well unless it’s a Tesi. It’s more than the equivalent Ducati which would be an SS not a 748/916/996
