So, if the Cali T is so much better why not mention the fact rather than trash all Calis? Btw, I'm not getting stroppy because cars are a personal thing and we all have different tastes. I could mention a mate who has just bought a 650S because he said the 458 was cr4p, yet you say it's the best car you've ever owned. Also, as you point out, it is a public forum and I can say what I want too.

Because the discussion began around a Cali not a Cali-T. Why would I speak about an MC Stradale if someone is asking about a Granturismo? Yes yes yes the 650s is better than the 458 for many people - pistonheads is full of these discussions so if you fancy that banter head over there let's not do this here :) If you do go look out for a guy called RamboLambo - guys a big Mclaren fan and bleedin hilarious :D

Maybe... but does he intend to be? Just so long as well know that his 650 is the best thing since girls, right?

Happily SM isn't PistonHeads. It's a far better place to be and far more egalitarian.

Personally, if I was trashing the GTs I would make a point of saying how good the Strad is so as not to paint all GTs with the same brush. Also, I'm on here because there are too many wannabes on there who spout sh!te for fun.

Good to know. However, a bit of punctuation might make a difference to your last post. :)

Did you drive the Cali or Cali T? As for looks, who cares if a GTS looks better than a Cali? Surely, that's uncomfortably close to vanity. However, if it comes down to hustling one through the Alps I'd take the Cali T every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I drove the original Cali. As far as I am aware that is the Cali under discussion here!

Are you seriously suggesting on this car forum that how a car looks is unimportant?

And I really don't see the connection to vanity. Most people buy things like houses and cars on a combination of objective and subjective criteria, eg, in car terms, performance and looks.

Are you saying you don't? Then why change the rear end of your 4200? The original lights were perfectly functional but presumably you prefer the look of the boomerangs?

The original Cali's ok, in my humble view. It may not be as good or as pretty as other cars costing half as much again or twice the price, but as a grand tourer with no roof and, as I understand it, a silky smooth engine which sounds amazing if you sort out the muted standard exhaust then I really don't see what's to complain about.

 Is that like losing your heart in San Francisco? Could be quite a song...

Anyway, given the cash I would be seriously tempted by a 720S, certainly in preference to a 488. I spent a while seriously coveting a 12C but the huge costs of remedying any problems are terrifying. That and the total lack of an indie service network means you're dependent on main dealers which ceases to be ok as soon as you're out of warranty.

Anyway, I'm not sure my driving talents would notice much scuttle shake on a Cali and a Larini exhaust can fix the sound objection. I can't believe it's any more wallowy than my GTS, but do agree that the infotainment is pretty ugly. But you probably don't buy a Fezza for its nice satnav.

Couldn't have summed it up better.
Also FWIW- i think the Stradale is the best looking car out there- and agree there is no need for more speed on these roads. The GTs was just too big for me.
The 458 and aventador are amazing cars but just not for me for the use they would have.
RE: drop offs and tescos. I am sure it will get attention but a black or silver one should
Be pretty low key.
RE: driving. It's all about comparisons and there will be always something better until you get up to formula 1 cars. Just chuckling about the scuttle shake comment.
I agree with the analysis when compared with some other cars- but in reality none of them affect me day to day.
I never used the stereo or sat nav in the GTs but surely the sat nav unit is similar?

I am with benny- who is having a moment of sheer lucidity and balance. i am tempted by the Cali T. Seems a very good compromise ferrari for modern life..

Cali T is a good car and a huge step up from the last gen car

The discussion was not around a Cali-T but around the previous Gen Cali. The Cali-T is a much nicer car and has moved the game on considerably from the earlier car. You're getting stroppy for no reason whatsoever, it's a public forum and I can say what I want. If I don't like a car there is no need for me to please anyone and say I love it! Sorry I can't lie for something you aspire to or not and whether you or I can afford it or not is irrelevant, I gave my reasons why I don't like it and you gave yours as to why you do and that is what a public forum is all about :) I actually find your response as complete bollox ;)

I have to say - I didn't expect this type of reaction on this particular forum. It's always been so well balanced. On a Ferrari forum I would expect to hear 'it's not a real Ferrari' comment before they went out to polish their appreciating 430 whilst rarely driving it and secretly wishing they had worked harder at school so they could actually earn money rather than buying and selling cars , property and number plates.

That's the beauty of this forum - everyone lauds each other's enjoyment in their car- from the gloriously unreliable but incredibly emotive 3200, through to the beastly Stradales and the older classics.

I for one will not be like MCS, moving on from my GTs and then dissing others choice of cars as it doesnt fit the path I chose. Rise up maserati forum - follow your spiritual leader benny and banish this Ferrari/ Aventador owning person to a more suitable forum such as Ferrari Chat

I changed the rear lights to be different as no spyder ever had them. I wanted to have something unique and that's what I have now got. Would I have done it if I had a GranSport? Probably not because it would look very similar to the 3200. OK, I'll grant you that looks are quite important although, to me, how it goes is much more important to how it looks.

Mr Surgeon take it easy you are getting carried away. If they don't want me here the'll have to ban me :)

I personally like them both. The new one is nicer (find me a model upgrade which is a retrograde step) but it's also £50k more. That's 2x average annual salaries, which is a shitload of money by most normal standards!

I agree. It's not about what you can afford In My opinion- it's about what it's materially worth. I like some aspects of the Cali T , but personally I like the look of the stacked exhausts and the lines on the older model. I am not sure day to day I would notice the other differences. I would prefer a low mileage 2012 Cali fully specced and save the other 40-50k for other things.

Having said that I could spend 25k less than a Cali and get the best looking and best sounding car out there...**** my logic

I was only joking. RWC should be banned because he is just obnoxious for no reason and not funny. You are funny- at least we can banter. So many good cars out there and so little time.

And iainw I sincerely wish you many more surgeries so that you too can experience more higher end cars and then have a chance to compare these to the older ones you had :)

There is a reason why one is £35k and the other is £350k. If you feel I'm dissing the lower end ones then I'm afraid you have the wrong end of the stick as I loved my MC shift a ton! If I don't like a car you wish to buy then don't get offended as I don't mean to. Just sharing my experiences of having a chance to have driven a lot of nice ones.

Im glad you said that. I went to Cars and Coffee in Liverpool on Sunday and there was an orange Aventador S there. What a vulgar wankmobile. Don't see the point personally, but no offence.

No one should be banned - it's all good fun as long as it is in good humour.
