Before I do something sensible....

Do it! I use mine as a daily and apart from struggling to hit 20mpg it’s a very special place to be. I had a petrol Ghibli but the QP is definitely a step up in terms of luxury and the GTS doesn’t mess about. It’s properly quick. As I’ve said before, no one says “oh wow a Mercedes”.

It does look rather attractive.

Thanks a lot!!
I am one of those sad people who hardly use their car (just over 20,000m in over six years), and spend more time washing and detailing the car than driving it, obsessing about the tiniest stone chip!!

Although a Ghibli Diesel is still a Maserati, with the benefits of economy, cheap RFL.
I accept these cars are very spec dependant, and a stripped out basic in white with standard wheels and black interior is not going to be all that interesting, in fact probably as boring as a mid size German executive car.
I ordered my car with all the upgrade options, something akin to the newer ‘Gran Lusso’ with extra bits n bobs, and most people think it’s a 100 grand car, not a BMW 530D motorway company car hack.
Whilst these interior pics were primarily to show the ‘sheepskin rugs’, from what you can see of the rest of the cabin, you can get all the luxury of a QP or even a poor mans Bentley!! Whilst the exterior still attracts a lot of attention…
Mine is the same interior/exterior colours. Also well specd car but doesn’t have skyhook. I also did a road trip around the lakes and other places covering 1500 miles back in September. I was surprised that I got 30mpg in a S petrol but I suppose a lot of the driving was cruising. I don’t want to get into what’s best petrol or diesel, it’s up to the owner and their requirements, but with diesel costing slightly more and the fact that the Ghibli diesel needs an extra service are they any cheaper to run these days. I suppose if your doing big mileage then probably yes.

Having tried the "one car fits all " with a C63 and an M4 I have finally decided its not possible!
A daily is a daily and should be a fit for purpose utility. I cannot see past a Skoda! I have just bought a 2019 Superb Sportline and it really is A6/E Class good. Honestly! Although my Yeti still remains the best car I have had. Full stop. Except of course for the Gransport LE I just took delivery from Richard!

I agree that one car does not fit all and in my case two doesn’t quite cut it either and my daily hack has to be a nice exec.
For the past decade I have used man maths to justify
  1. A luxury exec for work which has been a Jaguar XJ since 2006 that I change every 3 years or so.
  2. A special toy to help me relax and take my mi d off work at the weekend. Which have included an Aston V12, Granturismo MC and my current MC Stradale
  3. A classic car, coz everyone loves a classic, currently a TR6 but previously Mustangs, a mini and a Hotrod, but always something.
I love man maths

It’s easy to find reasons not to do things, but if you can afford the likely real running costs…..rather than the worst case scenario running costs that everybody loves to focus on here…… why wouldn’t you? All my Maseratis have cost me bugger all beyond routine servicing and petrol

Only because it's the same size as a small country. I'm seriously looking at a Ghibli if I need to keep driving to Reigate

Ditching the footballer heavyweight already Catman?
:0037:

I made the fatal error of looking at the long term MPG on it yesterday....

Now in my defence, my expectation when I bought the Continental was not that I would be driving to Reigate and back 3 times per week. I figured a couple of times per month and the rest of my office basis would be in The Monument.

This has proven to not be the case. While there are few places I would rather be stuck in traffic on the M25 than the driver's seat of that car, it's another world when you have range anxiety because you didn't fill up that day....

....you can literally see the fuel gauge drop.

So it depends on a number of things:
How badly the old 147 fails its MOT by at the end of the month
If my contract gets renewed / extended in February
If I accept the new contract (the company is challenging, and not in a great way)
And If I need to keep driving round the M25.

If I do, then the 147 is really not the beast for it. The Continental is definitely not, and a Maser GT would be 'unwise'

I could probably do a straight swap from into a petrol Ghibli and get better fuel economy as the 147 while still driving something I like.....

Your GS LE is super, but I would say that as mine is twin to it. Also from Richard and similar milage. These cars are just great

Ditch them both, get a small high mpg commuter and something for the weekend?

This week while my e39 getting mot and some bits been driving the cayenne turbo, I can see catmans point. On a 28 mile trip I averaged 12.1, and most if this is motorway, I only pressed the accelerator hard once onto the sliproad

Well this was a thought, but then I may as well keep the Continental. I don't really want to have three cars as it's three lots of tax, MOT, insurance and so on. And, in honesty, I can't really afford to invest in much for the commuter with the Continental on the go.

I could pool it and split with a cheaper weekend car and a more expensive commuter car I guess......

Hmmm, always fancied and Gransport ;)

One of my neighbours has done likewise recently going down the Skoda route with an estate, it gets him about and is good for shuffling engines and various other bits 'n' pieces about all over the place. He also has a pre-War Austin 7, a '72 MGB and a '50s motorbike and for bonus petrolhead points is a dead ringer for Denis 'Jenks' Jenkinson!

My other half is currently trying to think of every reason under the sun for us not to replace the daily Giulietta with a QPV, a Ghibli or a Giulia, I on the other hand.....;)

I know it's a cliche but life is way too short - do it!!

In my quest for the ultimate car that does everything, I did test drive an Alfa Giulia quadrifoglio. I'm going to be a bit controversial, but I found it to be too smooth and refined. On the other hand the M3 F80 was too aggressive! I would love to try a Ghibli S for size!
On a lighter note, I'm sitting in the gransport, taking it all in whilst Richard talks me through the controls, and I notice a loud ticking coming from the engine. I'm thinking variators, what a pain, when Richard points out the pneumatic drill at the adjoining building site- doh!

Schoolboy error, Chris! I’m curious to know what figure it gave you.

I make a point to avoid looking at mine but did so today after a relatively short local run: 4.5mpg average. I’ve emptied a tank doing 7.5 average. Fortunately it’s an occasionally used toy.
