Battery went dead and now rear brake locked on

Hi folks,

Randomly my battery went dead last few days. It’s a new ish battery so I’m not sure what happened. I got it charged so I can get it replaced but as I went to leave today the handbrake is stuck on! So I assume when the battery died something weird happened. I’ve tried moving the stick into all the positions but it’s so strange - it throttles but won’t go anywhere!

Don’t force it !

Could be completely unrelated to the battery as the handbrakes to have a habit of “sticking on” and can shred the shoes / damage the hub if forced.

Of the battery is fully charged / good then most likely a coincidence.

Someone will give advice soon on how to fix it

Thanks, I most certainly wont force it. Most likely a well known issue when the batery goes dead!

i've only ever experienced a stuck brake problem when I've jet washed a car and forgot to take it short run to dry discs, shows up day after......block of wood on disc and "gently" with a hammer solution ime.

Try and cycle the brakes on and off a few times with just a few revs to see if the car moves, but very very gently, otherwise you risk damage to the car and your wallet; as Scaf says, don't force it.

Flipping batteries, the root of all evil. Have had similar fun and gains with the DB9 over the weekend. My better half is now an armchair expert having read all the blogs - fortunately just recharging it has cleared all the faults. PITA when windows don’t close, it rains, car on neighbours drive etc etc.

Hi folks, so this ended up being an easy one. I dont know why this fixed it, but I went into the settings on the dash and changed it from auto brake to manual and back to auto again and it now works! The battery drain was quite random though so I'll need to find out why it drained so randomly and get a new battery. Do I REALLY need to tell the ecu that I have a new battery?

Nice that you fixed it.

Get a battery monitor they are only £20. Check out a bm200 or bm6

With a battery monitor you can....

A. Watch battery voltage, state of charge or temperature versus time
B. Set up alerts to your phone for voltage or state of charge.
C. Take the guess work out of high and low speed alternator charging or ecu voltage at start up
