Battery issue

I have just got back from 16 nights in Italy... left the Renegade at the airport (thankfully as it turns out!). Got home and the Ghibli was flat as a f*rt

Maserati assist (RAC) came out and got it started. Alternator fine but the battery health was very poor.

Its a March 2019 car and is used as a daily, though I think it stood unregistered for a period as was built late 2018. RAC bloke reckoned it needed a new battery and couldnt see a reason why it shouldnt be done under warranty.

Anyone else had battery issues? If Maserati dont cover it whats the best battery to replace it with?

My car which is over six years old, and is used infrequently (19,400 appr mikes) is still on its original battery.
i have left it for weeks and even months at a time, and I think only once has it needed jump starting. That said I do now use a Ctek tender whenever the car is unused for a while, as after six years I’m not sure I would want to rely on the battery, and the thought of a replacement circa £350 plus fitting (main dealer) doesn’t appeal.
I also invested in a battery monitor which connects via Bluetooth to an app on my phone, which shows all sorts of details on battery health.

Ye I have a Cteck on my other car which I use infrequently. This being a daily it doesnt / shouldnt need one.

I have emailed the dealer to ask if they will replace the battery (and included the Maserati assist report which states battery defect requires replacement).. so I will see what they say..

What Bluetooth battery monitor do you have Keith?

So they would have to run tests, and if it is not then covered its £160 to pay for the tests..

Think I will just buy my own for less than that!

Modern batteries just seem to be a consumable these days and things seem to be getting worse. I always buy a well known brand with a good long guarantee 3-5 years normally, I have only had to claim on a Bosch unit that failed after 2 months and was replaced immediately but after 5 years I assume I will need to replace and if not happy days

Yes thats why I can see Maserati not covering it. They car is 2.5 years since registered and probably around 3 years old.
Ive ordered one (with a guarantee) from a trusted local supplier for £150 fitted.

Certainly better than the £350 plus fitting the main dealer quoted me!!!

What Bluetooth battery monitor do you have Keith?

I use the BM2 Battery monitor. It works without issue, although the Bluetooth range could be better, and it provides a wealth of information and some battery tests via the app.

Jaguar make a similar diagnostic charge that you have to agree to which I found out when I had an aircon fault.

Its something they all do I suppose.. however Maserati seem to excel in making it difficult. In this case I called the Maserati assist line, who sent someone, who said it was knackered and needed replacing... but thats not enough for them!

All sorted. Bit fiddly to remove and refit but no real issues. No warning lights stayed on.

For info the factory battery (assuming it was its original) was a Varta
