Sad to see - but you get the feeling he or she should have seen that coming

So where is the air intake on a Levante??? I'm guessing it is down low like the 4200!

For heavens sake - they may be big SUV but not f...ing boats - have people got no common sense at all?

I do remember doing an off road driving course up in Scotland - I turned up in my Hummer S2 (SUT) and the instructor laughed - we both got into the course centres Landrover Mk 2

We passed a rather nice Porsche Cayenne up to its nuts in muddy water - instructor mentioned that once all 4 wheel sensors were water logged along with every other engine sensor the engine had gone into limp home mode and then stalled out and wouldn't restart.

I'm glad I hadn't used the Hummer as although it would have coped with the terrain - it was way wider than the established (very deep) wheel ruts - cracking day out though!!

Ridiculous. Put simply they shouldn't be allowed near a Car or the roads let alone a Levante. Surely insurance companies shouldn't pay out for these sorts of claims!!!!!

When I worked at BNFL we had a Landrover Discovery (N reg!) and they let me borrow it on site only and 'go off road'. It was awful, bouncing like buggery and banging my head on the roof (I'm 6' 4"), can't see the fun in it at all...

Always test the depth before you wade in, doesn't matter if your on foot or in an off roader.

There use to be a under bridge near where we lived where the foot path was much higher than the road, every time it rain it flooded but people saw the footpath and thought it was shallow only to then find themselves in over 3ft of water. Mate had a LWB S3 Landy and I tow rope and we would often sit there on wet days and collect a tenner off everyone we pulled out.

Those are just bloody stupid but I do feel sorry for some people. My Dad’s 5 series sucked in water a couple of months ago and was written off.

He phoned me up to come rescue him. I thought if he’s gone through that much water there’s no point putting wellies on as it’ll be over the top. I’ll just put boots on and get wet. When I got there it didn’t even come up to my calf.

He was gutted. He’s been driving for 62 years and never had a car written off, came close when a lorry reversed over the front of his Lotus in Smethwick but even that was repaired.

One thing I notice is that on the news whenever this happens it is always reported as if it’s the fault of the weather that the car is flooded. Look what ‘storm retard’ has done to this car!
They never say ‘look, another idiot has inexplicably driven their car into deep water!’

Looks like the lion in the bottom right of the picture made it through ok though.

I had a Saab 9000 2.3 cds turbo. Absolute Q car. Unforunately my wife drove into 12" deep flood and the air intake was in front wheel well. The engine stalled but turned over ok - but written off because insurance company would not sanction repairs.
I didn't know any better - now I would take the money and avoid the car being written off
