Ok so I have a 4 year old in a front facing car seat which is fine however with with 3 months to go the wife is struggling to get in and out but once numero 2 pops out that will be fine. Question I have is how does the GTS work with a new born not in a front facing seat. I cant see the baby seat swiveling round well at all in the rear which may rule this car out for a while and just using the wife's 4x4? Anyone have any experience? Cheers

I have experience of using a rear facing seat in the rear of a GT. I always found it best to use one with a base that clicks into the isofix so the seat is easy to get in and out. I can’t recall the name of the equipment we used as it’s ten years ago but easy to source.

i think Dicky is talking about is the maxicosy that fits the isofix system. They come with a base (familyfix base) that allow you to turn different seats on both sides. I had 2 baby seats when I owned my GT 1 facing fwd and 1 back. It kinda works but the person (most likely passenger) who gets the seat facing back needs to pull the seat quite forward preventing any long trip journey.
If you search the forum, I think there is a thread on the topic where I posted some photos a while ago.

I used a rear facing seat in a gt for a few years. It is doable but not entirely practical! The shape of the rear seats are a bit awkward for car seats and i had to pad out the 'bucket' with towels. I would definitely put a seat protector down too as rear facing seats are pretty chunky and corners will dig into the seat stretching the leather and deforming the padding if left in the car for long periods.

There are isofix points but they are awkward to get to again because of the seat shape so i used a seat that just strapped in. I bought the maserti group 0/1 seat (cos I'm a sucker for a bagde) which is just a recovered peg-perego seat. Italian make not sure how available over here.

Getting the seat in and out of the car is a PITA due to access and the way the belts have to be secured. Definitely wouldn't want to do it with junior strapped in! You will have to turn the seat on its side to manoeuvre past the front seats. I left mine in the car all the time and put my son in and out through the opposite side.

As mentioned above when the seat is in the car the front passenger seat has to be quite far forward. You won't fit it behind the driver's seat and still be able to drive the car, unless you're 5 foot tall!

All in all you have to be comitted, I think I only did it to 'prove' to my wife that a gt is definitely a practical family car.

You want my honest advice ... buy a cabrio!

Like others have said it’s a bit of a squeeze but doable.
We’ve got the Peg Perego official Maserati seat with isofix but doubt it fits any better than others mentioned

It was make it work or have no chance to take the GT out!

Haha. Some real dedication lads. I have one still in a front facing seat on one side and will then need to get the new born in an Isofix on the other side so cant really keep the newborn seat in and access from the other side. Its not looking good :conf2:

I have a maserati official rear facing seat for the granturismo as we had a baby girl in April! The seat works fine, you can unplug the seat from the base and take the baby and car seat out, a bit fiddly..... hence we still usually pick one of our other two cars which have four doors, especially the RR its just much easier. But on a sunny day ..... its nice that I can still fit my wife, 7 year old and the baby and still enjoy a blast through the surrey hills in the granturismo... even the boot takes the pram and baby bag!! Where there's a will there's a way!

Remember putting child seats in the back of the 4200, youngest now 11!
Also bought off the forum a custom made rear seat cover to completely cover everything, sold it a few years ago again to a forum member!
