Audible warning on 4200

On a relatively long journey yesterday my car gave out an audible warning 3 times when on the motorway. I didn’t hear it myself as I don’t pick up higher frequency sounds these days but my wife heard it. It’s not the first time it’s happened but not for a while (or possibly I’ve just not been aware of it). There were no corresponding dashboard lights showing or any other indicators. Anybody got any ideas?

Too warm to be the ice warning and with the exception of the reverse engaged tone I am not aware of any others.

Tracker??

Yes, even for Scotland in May, too warm for the ice warning and the tracker was removed some time ago. It’s a manual so no reverse engaged tone. Thanks for suggestions though!

Was it 'beep beep beep' - if so mine occasionally did that some time ago but then stopped - now it does it at low speeds and the gear box (I think) light comes on (but the ABS and ASR lights are always on) - my mechanic now thinks it may be the ABS sensor or an electrical issue, but he's having problems getting the car to communicate with the diagnostic machine.........

No, mine is a continuous beep for a few seconds and then nothing and no lights.

Handbrake sensor?
I don't think it has one (its a manual). I did the return journey on Sunday, (admittedly not as fast as it was rather damp) and it didn't repeat so i will put it down to it being a Maserati and leave it at that!

I had something similar on my 3200GT where I got a very strange noise for a few seconds, no warning lights or anything the car continued absolutely fine. It turned out to be the death throes of the factory alarm siren or more to the point the internal battery within it. You don't normally hear the siren unless a breach occurs but to test it is easy, lock and arm the car with the button on the key (waiting for it to settle down) and then open the door with the key blade without de-activating the alarm, the alarm should go off and the siren will start to wail if it is OK.

Then how does the light on the dash go on when you put the handbrake on? ;)
