Not many sell that quick Dean...Well done my friend. Bring on the V12 Vantage. Lovely red S for sale at an Aston dealer on Autotrader at 72k ;-)
I think the right cars will always sell at the right price in most markets. Some get a little unrealistic on price or thinking their cars are better than everyone else's. I know my car was a decent car with much more in its favour than against. Also appealing to a wide market with mileage, colour combo, spec and history. I also went with a very keen price as well and it returned a little less than I had hoped but I'm not greed and am realistic.

It is very easy to get stuck with the wrong car at the wrong price and the current market over the last few years is not forgiving. Don't see that changing ever to be honest and rightly so.

LOL....I will be sticking to my plan and nothing more coming in this year for sure. The Alfa GT 3.2 is also going to be culled as well I'm afraid.

That should see me through to next year. If the garages and office get done also the house build pushes ahead then maybe end of next year who knows. Trouble is I might be potless by then

...if it was a V12S manual. Significantly less for an SS. Looks fantastic in that colour though!

Yeah, but the manual's exactly the same 'box with some rods added. Bugger to use and no more engaging. To be clear, I've not driven one but am going by what a well-regarded Aston tech told me.

More to the point, I'd like to have seen a few k less depreciation on mine than that £72k price suggests. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to keep it. Happy days!

Thanks to all for the kind words, I am really rather excited.
I'm sure you all already know but Dean has been properly open throughout all the discussions.
From a buyers perspective I think that's what closed the deal, we all know that these cars are a gamble in many ways - more so when buying privately, so having a seller that will just tell you straight all the negatives and positives of the car is paramount.
Hopefully the car acts as well in my ownership as it has in Deans, but it'll get regular use with quite a few miles planned for this year so I'm sure there be a couple unexpected bills coming up!

It’s just how the market perceived them. I don’t find the gearbox a bugger to use at all, and it’s not known to be problematic (I’ve had an SS which I didn’t like and shouldn’t have bought - though later are meant to be better, and two manuals which I loved). Each to their own! One thing I would do would be replace with the lighter clutch if the opportunity had arisen - apparently makes a difference on both SS and manual, though more markedly on the latter.

Maybe I'm just lazy. I didn't even consider the manual because the SSiii was such a joy to use. Took some getting used to in the same way the Maser MC / CC boxes take some getting used to, but for the occasions when you're really belting it, needing to change gear every 2-3 seconds is so much easier if you can do it with a paddle (the auto is bollox). Obviously those opportunities are rare, and when I'm just trundling along at a more leisurely pace the accessibility of the gears means I'm probably more engaged than if I was using a manual box and just riding around on the torque in 3rd because it's easier than faffing with the pedals.

Like I said, I'm a bit lazy, and also not a good enough driver to want to take my hands off the wheel and use a stick. :)

I miss my Manual.

In general stopping at, and pulling out of, junctions - manual is just so much better. You can see, assess and decide what gear you want far better than a car ECU can.

Most Flappy-Paddle gearboxes will change down to 1st when it feels it should, yet at that precise moment it decides to change down, you were about to slam the accelerator down. Or, it might slip the clutch just at the wrong moment. Double clutches might have made that slightly better, but really, a manual is best.

One thing no gearbox can compete with a Manual on, is parallel parking. I include ZF, and slushbox autos. The control you have of balancing the weight of the car and creeping/inching it forwards, doesn't exist with other gearboxes.

I've been watching prcies of the new Vantage but love this one.....volcano red V12 manual roadster. Not sure what the stitching is on the headrests though!

I've not driven the manual V12 S but from what I've read and seen it really is for the committed driver. Even the best drivers say they kept stalling at slower speeds. The Sportshift 111 in the S seems to hit the sweet spot better. Same in the new Vantage as well from what I understand.

This is a decent review. Don't mind this chap from seen through glass.....Love the car as well which DL sold a few weeks ago.....Anyway interesting comment about the manual S he had driven against this SS3 car.........

Here's the time he drove the manual car......Think most of them stalled it at some stage...

Thanks for sharing, Andy. I'll watch that. In the meantime, what did he say about the manual v SSiii?

He said that the manual was 30/40k more than the SS and that's more about exclusivity. He said he didn't really bond with it even though it was a cool car as the clutch peddle was long, the bite point high and he spend the day stalling. The SS doesn't give you this problem. He said don't get hung up on the manual as the SS is just as good if not better......The salesman out the end said the Vantage V12 S was always made to have the SS3 box from the outset so the manual was really a novelty at the end of the life of the car.
