As bad as it looks?

Dealer selling this QP claims the bumper scuff can be repaired for 50 quid and the road rash for similar! Somehow I don't think that will be a quality job, how much do you think it could be and is it as bad as it looks? Perhaps I expect too much from a used car?58383

If he can fix the roadrash for £50, and it doesnt look like stevie wonder has fixed it, sign me up!!

Sounds too cheap, but if he's probably factoring it into his margin...

To be fair a smart repair guy would probably charge £100 - £150 retail for the bumper. If the smart repair guy is onsite and he does lots of work he may well add this onto his work for an additional £50. As for the road rash I don't know, depends how the paint can be hidden into a bend, crease or panel gap

I should add I have a good relationship with a dent and smart repair guy, but have also had bad experiences in the past. It seems hit and miss so maybe negotiate more off and find someone who you trust or has been referred to you.

Cheers. would you guys be more concerned with the road rash or the scuff?

Also regards to the smart repair guy, would such a person be paint matching?

The guy that repainted my sills says that it normally £400 per side - removing them is a PITA and you destroy the foot plates in the process requiring a new set at £100 on top. The road rash on the doors themselves could be covered with maserati supplied stick on guard. Mine had these which "saved" the door, but did not extend down to the sill.

I also got the front , bumper, bonnet, front quarters and rear view mirrors done as well as the wheels. I had peeling clear coat problems as well as chips and scratches.

There are two versions of black paint apparently. One with 4 different colours, amd another with lots more. I had the one with 4. It's a good match, but if you look closely the metallic flec is a different density. Not sure you'd get the flec with smart repairs? Actually, not sure what a smart repair really is.

At the end of the day the car is cheap as chips. Any work you do on it is purely for vanity becasue it's your pride and joy, but a quality job won't be cheap and do nothing for the value sadly. My front end looks lovely, but it only highlights the imperfections on the rest of the car now.

However, paintwork secondary to the mechanical soundness of the car

If it’s that cheap, have him fix it and pay an extra £100... I bet his reply will be “we have no time for that, and the car sells itself....”
Personally this is not the sort of dealer I would buy from.

Thing is, i think the car is honest enough and while it is not cosmeticslly perfect it might well be mechanically better. Im sure the opposite is true of many examples out there! Balancing act!

Could an amataur touch up take the whiteness out of the scuff until I source someone reputable to do it?

I recently got a cheap station car which the delivery man just happen to damage when he brought it round
Smart repair to the side which looks OK from a distance but I would cry if I saw the same on the Maserati.
£50... ask for that and more off and get it done properly.

As above, if it was that cheap he would’ve had it done.
I’d say a good paint guy would charge £200-300 for a proper job.

Yes its not a big job by any means, just cosmetics! I assume the bumper would need to come off? this would be what I would worry about!

I wonder if some black turtle wax polish would take the whiteness out!

I sold that car a while back. Regards paint, leave the road rash, it’s minimal by the look of it, have the bumper painted for £300 in a paint shop.

A good smart repairer will cover that bumper scuff permanently - and he/she should be able to match the paint perfectly. No need to remove the bumper. There was a slight mark on the bumper of my DB9 which the MD agreed to repair. I assumed full repaint, but MD insisted that a smart repair would achieve a better paint match. I was doubtful, but you cannot see it. I even got Marios at Autoshield to check it over before I accepted it

Im in a bit of a pickle! Very close to buying this car but dealer is over an hour away from Migliore or GrayPaul!

While I am happy to pay for the PPI, he is charging me £200 for transporting the car to either and won't drop a penny despite me saying I would cover the cost but only if the car checks out and there is nothing untoward or major! If there is an issue, I offered to give him the PPI report which I think will be worth 200 quid and might actually enable him to sell the car at a premium!

Now as Dicky pointed out, he sold the car in the past and I have no reason to believe it is a problem child, however in taking his advice and listening to my Accountant (Wife), I insist on a PPI!

So the big question, is an AA or RAC PPI even remotely close to a specialist? I know they are not up to the same standard but can they really be miles apart as an 'inspection'? They will work on-site which will obviously work for everyone.

If you want the car and are serious about buying it assuming it checks out, suck it up and pay the £200. It's < 2 tanks of petrol and better to avoid something that costs ££££ vs £200. Even if the car has been looked after, things break and wear and tear - better to know what they are by a specialist/someone who knows where to look vs saving a few quid

Well if it doesn't check out, I will be out £500 with the PPI cost too! I understand the balancing act here but £500 is a lot of dough for nothing to be gained. I can however live with £250 from the AA etc if the car didn't check out.
