Open letter to Wattie:

Dear Wattie

Please forgive the intrusion, but a Moderator rightly suggests that I should clarify your status.

Are you real?
Do you have boundaries?
If you do, can they be made public?
If you have no boundaries, why not?
Is it true that the forum Mods had you transported to the colonies?

I think that should suffice, but do feel free to contribute further if you think it would benefit the community.

Yours in anticipation

Confused - over many things.
Dear PhilH

Are you real? Yes, that will disappoint a few.
Do you have boundaries? Yes, most however have been introduced regionally by politicians in reaction to 3 covid cases in 1.8million square km of QLD.
If you do, can they be made public? No, I rather enjoy responding to others when they are “pushed”.
If you have no boundaries, why not? As above, I have boundaries -Amber Rudd and Anne Widdecombe give an insight into others.
Is it true that the forum Mods had you transported to the colonies? No, but I believe that they are partly responsible for the ongoing fear mongering and exaggerated risk of the Covid virus (for the healthy majority) in order to maintain international border controls to stop me attending the next (to be confirmed) Sports Maserati organised event (around 2035) -once everyone on the planet (excluding myself) is fully vaccinated with their 14th annual mutation top up.

On that note, any attempt to pin a future “Australian Variant” at my feet should be taken with a pinch of Vitamin D.

Hope this clarifies matters.
Best Wattie

Well I can't work it out.
My house sale still dragging it's feet.
Solicitors and agent tell me it's because of Covid-19 and people working from home etc etc.
Costing me money as Council tax up 5% and no discount on an empty house.
Told them how quick Capes moved during Covid.
Becoming a bit of a farce for me now.

I know a family who moved a month ago after a year of delays from solicitors on both sides, and they nearly pulled out because of the problems it caused. The house they bought now shows as sold in January 2020 which is apparently when their offer was accepted. In contrast, one of my neighbours sold just before Christmas and started moving yesterday.

Hang in there mate, at least you have a nice place to live in the meantime.

There is no logic to house sales here in the UK.

My last place was on the market in June 2017 and finally went in Feb 2020. 6 offers in that time, with 5 falling through for silly reasons and change of mind. Offers varied by £30k or c10% falling as time went on.

Zoopla always listed it just above asking price, so clearly a case of desire over value... got hard by the fact there was a new estate being built a short drive away with nice kitchens and bathrooms, but 20% smaller and closer to the Motor Way... but some people prefer shiny new rather than space?!?

May be worth giving a deadline for pulling out.

So - working from home.
  1. No commute. So apart from saving personal time it saves 20 minutes of chit chat getting through the office to my desk
  2. A 30 minute Teams meeting takes 30 minutes whereas a 30 minute office meeting takes 50 minutes, plus ties people up organising etc.
  3. Lunchtime is similarly shorter by 10 minute arrangement time

So the average day can be easily around 15% more productive.

Covid and WFH is not a valid reason or excuse.

I find companies and people work best when given a hard deadline and are relentlessly pursued leading up to the deadline.

Try an open letter to your solicitors, their solicitors and the buyers with an achievable deadline.

Last time I sold a house was 5 years ago , the buyers used an online solicitor despite the agent begging them not to
They were a pain in the **** , every email ours sent they replied by post ,never answered the phone , it dragged on for weeks , in the end we gave them a deadline
The buyer had to go and hammer on their door, an angry 6'4" Pole on the doorstep did the trick

Huge solicitors backlog because of amount of sales apparently. The suspension of stamp duty is the main cause but not helped by working from home etc.

Cheers all.
Biggest problem for me is not being in the UK and able to chase in person.
Hopefully not much longer.

It's been so long I don't know anymore I will have to ask.

don't want to worry you, but the chain might have broken and/or survey/mortgage offer problems, would ask some serious question with the agent, solicitors wouldn't normally have a clue and spun a yarn by agent playing for time if there is a problem with the chain, there is absolutely no reason why a sale cannot progress to exchange and completion in the normal timescale if all mortgage offers are in place and chain complete
