Grants Schapps - Public should not book holidays in the UK or abroad. Not yet.
That's not quite what he said. As Matt Hancock batted back that it doesn't make for good headlines.
“People shouldn’t be booking holidays right now – not domestically or internationally,”
Which is not quite the same as 'you mustn't book a summer holiday' My interpretation of his clumsy phrase was 'You shouldn't be booking holidays for right now'
"Please don't go ahead and book holidays. I simply don't know the answer to the question of where we'll be up to this summer.
"It's too early to give that information. The best advice to people is: do nothing at this stage."
Which seems not that un-reasonable frankly. Because if people do book their summer break, then lose money because something changes, who's going to get it in the neck?
It's probably just me. I'd be a lousy journalist.
FWIW we're booked for Mexico in October. Fully refundable. Not sure we're going to make it, but hopeful
