Grants Schapps - Public should not book holidays in the UK or abroad. Not yet.

That's not quite what he said. As Matt Hancock batted back that it doesn't make for good headlines.

“People shouldn’t be booking holidays right now – not domestically or internationally,”

Which is not quite the same as 'you mustn't book a summer holiday' My interpretation of his clumsy phrase was 'You shouldn't be booking holidays for right now'

"Please don't go ahead and book holidays. I simply don't know the answer to the question of where we'll be up to this summer.
"It's too early to give that information. The best advice to people is: do nothing at this stage."

Which seems not that un-reasonable frankly. Because if people do book their summer break, then lose money because something changes, who's going to get it in the neck?

It's probably just me. I'd be a lousy journalist. ;)

FWIW we're booked for Mexico in October. Fully refundable. Not sure we're going to make it, but hopeful

My sister is a nursery carer. She says she's never seen anything like it. None of the kids have sniffles. I mentioned this a while back. I believe the official stats for 'flu are through the floor as well

It kind of proves my old maths teacher's theory of the spread of diseases. He was b0ll0cking some kids for spitting and told them how it can transmit diseases such as TB, Diphtheria etc. He said cleanliness should be the prime defence of public health.
Mr Kirschener was quite correct.

Grant Schapps said:
Grant Schapps. Radio 4’s Today programme, he said:
So I’m afraid I can’t give you a definitive, will there or will there not be the opportunity to take holidays this next year either at home or abroad.
“On the shrinking chance that there is anybody listening to this interview at this stage, and thinking of booking a holiday under the current circumstances … please don’t go ahead and book holidays for something which, at this stage, is illegal to actually go and do, whether it’s here or abroad.”

Matt Hancock confirmed that he has booked his holiday to Cornwall already, though he is unsure it will go ahead.
Matt Hancock said:
Matt Hancock told BBC Breakfast: "I booked it months ago - that is what I really hope we can do. I hope we can have a great British summer."

Without wanting to trawl through too much news in order to quote it, I think it's pretty clear. Grant Schapps has said it is too early to book summer holidays, wait till 22 February. Matt Hancock has booked his holiday already.

But I’m not aware of any law against it. So if Matt Hancock has decided to take the financial risk - possibly because demand is outstripping supply - how has he broken any law or rule. That is a personal matter, that you are also permitted to take a personal view on without breaking any laws or rules either. There is no rule for them and us here

I still think it's pretty clear, but no harm, no foul :)

(PS no wonder we need solicitors!) ;)

More good news: Two drugs in combination seem to prevent 50% mortality in severe COVID. Will track down what they are later

The UK has ordered 400 million vaccines and there seems to be a lot of debate who we should give away our excess quantity to when we have vaccinated all we want to do. How about we give it away to our Commonwealth countries, some of them are very poor countries.

My 84 year old mother in law was hospitalised 10 days ago with a fairly minor illness that required in patient treatment. Due to dementia she lives in a privately funded care home, I would add that she has no other medical conditions and has the constitution of an ox. Her care home have managed customer care above and beyond during this pandemic with a level of professionalism and genuine concern that is admirable and so far with a lossless record. After 3 days and 2 nights in hospital the care home required that the hospital perform a covid test prior to returning her to their care and this came back as +ve so she remained at the hospital. 2 days later we were informed that she had developed low oxygen levels in her blood and breathing difficulties. 5 days have passed and she is deteriorating.... so much for shielding and protecting the vulnerable if this is the outcome when hospital care is required.
My mother in law was returned to her care home for palliative nursing care today, having been in hospital since Dec 18th initially, as mentioned above, for a minor in patient treatment where she then contracted Covid. Before admission she had no medical issues, aside Dementia which after 3 years of my wife and I caring for her eventually necessitated round the clock professional care for the last 2 years The side effects of covid have basically erased what was left of my mother in law and reduced her lung capacity to a point where she is visibly fading away and barely conscious. I met my now wife 32 years ago shortly after losing both of my own parents and my mother in law has been a mum to me ever since. Look after your seniors and if you stumble across any selfish little c0ck wombles partying in secret with that entitled "me me me" attitude, knock their teeth out for me..

So sorry to hear your news, so sad. I guess all your can do is pray and remember the good times. I hope there is an opportunity to visit her in the care home, visiting these days seems much like a lottery.

I've never watched a match all the way through , lost interest by half time usually but the constant spitting is disgusting

I don't remember seeing it in the 70s games so why has it become acceptable now
