I'm more worried about China ramping up the pressure on Taiwan and Hong Kong plus taking a strategic hold on the South China sea.

We ain't seen nothing yet. First they cripple the world then dominate the local politics with overt brinkmanship. Dodgy times ahead me fears,

If the Western governments and people like us don't say it as we see it we will pay a price well beyond what we can afford

Joe Saward is an F1 journalist. When asked about how Lance Stroll got his place in F1, he reminds people that both Niki Lauda and Fernando Alonso brought money to the teams they drive for and some or all of their salaries were paid from that money and that whilst Stroll may have paid for his place in F1 he is still a credible driver in his own right. His conclusion is that the current 20 drivers on the grid is the best group of talent there has been for at least 20 years.

By contrast, this feels one of the worst collections of politicians in my lifetime, both in government and in opposition with some notable exceptions. It is in my view one of the weakest front benches.

As for Boris, he is known to be an admirer of Churchill. Sadly I feel that admiration will mirror his own history. Churchill was firmly rejected after the war as not a great leader.

The ideas are thin, the delivery consistently poor and I do not understand why, with such a significant majority, his cabinet prioritised loyalty over competence to such an extent.

But a country always gets the government it deserves.

Churchill also was largely responsible for starving millions of Belgalis and didn't he have something to do with introducing the Black and Tans in Ireland?

No one in 'perfect' non-shock.....

(confirmation bias: anyone want to shout 'House')

Boris is in for the full term imho
Whether that is god or not is up to the individual

I think your spot on , Boris will do the term possibly 2 , i like the fact that Cummings is staying , i like the fact that openly Boris is backing him , based on the fact its one in the eye for the media , they have to learn , (the media the twitter feeders and facebook etc to control public opinion ) that they cant whip up a storm in a tea cup with just three leaves and expect people to lose their livelyhoods , so yes im proud Boris stood his ground

Well they have already achieved economic dominance and are well on their way to achieving ciber dominance, so who knows what next. The Spratly and Parcel islands in the South China seas will inevitably be a major military flash point sooner rather than later, and of course as economies pick up the pieces post Covid-19, there will be multiple law suits on China for not doing more to control the onset of the virus, running into hundreds of trillions of dollars. So this will just serve to 'stoke the boilers,' with possibly significant consequences for all. Its going to be a rough ride over the next few years.

I think the media like to think so......

Apparently low death rate means you did everything right and are excellent leaders.

It's got nothing to do with any of the thousands of variables such as population density, age, general health, genetic make up, lying about the numbers etc.

Conversely if you have a high death rate you should be fired immediately.

Or that the lockdown started about 3 weeks too late....or the Cheltenham Gold Cup was still allowed to go ahead for over 200,000 people, right at the wrong time....or successive govts failed to invest in sufficient PPE....or half of China travelled to Europe for Chinese new year.....or that flights from China were not stopped early enough..and and... and.;. as you say lots of variables.;)

Is it me or is Rishi Sunnak far better at answering questions from the journalists on the Covid daily update. He also seems to get a much higher level of respect from the journalists, judging by the tone of the questioning and certainly much more than Boris or Hancock. He appears to be a really good communicator and I think certainly one to watch as a possible future leader when bullsh$% Boris gets booted out. :saifi:

Yeah very eloquent and a thinker , but he doesnt appear to be any where near as malable as Boris if he was given his head , so lovable malable Boris will stay , i'll stake Midlife crisis hat on it

Mmmm...not convinced Loz. Sunnak is a smart cookie, politically agile on his feet, level headed, articulate and doesnt seem to get phased by any question thrown at him.... unlike Boris. More of a statesman TBH.

Exactly my point, he can deliver , thats very evident , but we need a malable priminister not a free thinker , our path is set and it has to be adhered to, quite happy for him to be treasurer/chancellor until we are well on our way

Sunak's dad is head honcho at Infosys, one of the offshore facilitators that's killing IT contracting in UK, cheap labour, many cockups, much cheapness.

Just got home after a drive home from Milton Keynes, third time this week, and enjoying an hour in the garden with the last of the sun.
Was lovely until a group of 20 teenagers with blasting music have just walked passed the house, with a distinctive aroma behind them.
Social distancing and a group no more than 6 (which is next week anyway) you are having a laugh.

Loz, what we need is real leadership and although I had some hope that we might get this from Boris, so far pretty disappointed TBH.

Patience my man , all good things come to those that wait , and ive been waiting for some long time , Boris can be a Maggie if the forces give him a chance to feel his feet , he has been hit hard since he took office , and the Corona knocked him for six and he still is not 100% by far. Beating the media with the Cummings issue was a big step foward , similar to Maggie and the mines union and print unions ...................as the unions had too much power and had to be broken .............so the media press and the twitter/fbook media manupulation also has to be broken , and Cummings was the first step. Do i believe Cummings was guilty of something possibly/ probably , but it didnt warrant all and sundry baying fo his head on the block , that was a coordinated remainer establishment ploy , and its backfired so wait a little time and sit back and watch Cummings go fo them one by one starting with disloyal civil servants to the beeb and then onto the press and restrictions on social media . Then watch it brexit unfold with a huge Im backing Britain campaign similar to the 70's, missus told me earlier that the briefing had no more questions about Cummings so i guess thats it
