RE: Mr C’s point above re: ? Over preparations- This is a good point and worthy of a good chat over a beer. The term ‘can’t win’ springs to mind for the government. I wish the system had focused more on testing and PPE rather than Ventilators (did I say i was right?) and huge hospitals. I am sure they can find use for these Nightingale hospitals and it shows what is possible if pressed. The big worry is the people who have died from non Covid related causes that could have had their lives prolonged. But this is too complex an issue to get heads around yet!

Yep if only we had known that there was sufficient ITU capacity in the system then the Nightingale Hospitals may not have been fitted out. Thing is we may still need them and the Dyson et al ventilators. Vaccines don't appear for 12+ months but here's hoping some off label existing drugs might help in wave two.

The three peaks of Spanish Flu paint a sorry picture and I am sure that people will get sloppy with social distancing in time which will give us another peak...probably come the colder weather.

Hopefully we can get back to cardiology and oncology appointments, diagnostics and then operations. We might even get some elective orthopod stuff too!

Juxtaposition what a Great word that is.

Whilst on the wonder of words, and who better to school us than a lexicographer, here is Suzie Dent's recent tweet in light of Donald's advice on how to treat Covid-19:

"While Toilet Duck and Dettol are trending, here's a reminder of the word 'ultracrepidarian': one who consistently offers opinions and advice on subjects way beyond their understanding."

I imagine she was answering a question sarcastically.

I like Suzie but on this occasion 'Loud mouth orange tw4t' is a better discription.

Will be burying our youngest member of staff to die of the virus tomorrow afternoon.

33 years old and joined us 18 months ago. RIP Rachel Yates.
That really is tragic news Peter , 33 is no age, it doesn't seem fair when you see somebody in their 90s recovering while someone with their whole life in front of them doesn't .

Utterly tragic. My worst fear was seeing team members and colleagues succumb. Best wishes to you, the team and her family.

This is a far more vexing matter than virology and epidemiology...

.... Is there actually any point in time at which it's not winter in the UK?

(preparing my new log in alias immediately...)
Normally not but the weather has been EPIC here! Desperate to buy an F car but not sure it would send out the right message at the moment!

Forget elective Ortho- we need to get cosmetic surgery back on so people can start to feel better about themselves again! Trust me- they will never need Dyson ventilators. It’s actually best to keep people off ventilators if possible in many cases they are finding.

Worth watching. Its all about the lack of action to buy the necessary types and volumes of PPE by NHS Supply Chain therefore not adequately protecting front line NHS staff.

One thing that has been evident out of all this from my perspective ,is that from early on the money was there , the government gave an open cheque book , seems to me NHS England supply chain seem to me the main problem, added with lack of quality control from the chinese side of things , there's a lot to answer for , and although its not directly the governments fault there's a lot of political point scoring going on geneally directed towards government more often than not from the beeb , i cant wait till the beeb gets dismantled , and the cossetted buffoons that work there are cast upon the real world . lets see how smug they are then
