Good to know someone is doing something useful while the rest of skulk at home being paranoid, complaining or making pointless spreadsheets.
Are you not the very definition of this? You have no need to be paranoid as you are skulking at home - and instead of making spreadsheets you are taking screen grabs from Wikipedia and making your own conclusions to suit your view of the world. Did you consider volunteering to help following Boris’s call or Is that for someone else to do as well?
If I am mistaken and you are front line in a hospital, producing ventilators or working in a virology lab, please accept my apologies in advance.

I’m sorry, but why do you need to know that? People seem to be concentrating on the stats rather than the real situation. Who gives a flying fck how many die in a given week? It proves nothing apart from how busy the undertakers are going to be. It might be a spike, a one off or a slump so it doesn’t matter. The powers that be will tell us when it’s over, until then do as I’m doing and stay off social fcking media.

I think the point is is to try to anticipate whether this is few hundred extra personal tragedies, or the end of civilisation as we know it, or somewhere in between. Right now Italy is experiencing something like +50% on the normal underlying weekly deaths (a very rough estimate), which is dramatic number. The UK is experiencing something like +5% (a fairly rough estimate), which seems insignificant today, but could grow to a become a dramatic number.

This analysis is not useful (unless you are powers that be), but it can be reassuring or a call to personal action.

But, yes, just waiting and seeing is another option.

My life is over , received this ealier ;)

EMPLOYEE NOTICE

Due to the current financial situation caused by the Corona Virus and slowdown in the economy, the Government has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 50 years of age and above on early, mandatory retirement, thus creating jobs and reducing unemployment.

This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).

Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the Government to be considered for the SHAFT program (Special Help After Forced Termination).

Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW program (System Covering Retired-Early Workers).

A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the Government deems appropriate.

Persons who have been RAPED could get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependents & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance).

Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the Government.

Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much **** (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The Government has always prided themselves on the amount of **** they give our citizens.

Should you feel that you do not receive enough ****, please bring this to the attention of your TD, who has been trained to give you all the **** you can handle.

Sincerely,
The Committee for Economic Value of Individual Lives (E.V.I.L.)

PS - Due to Corona Virus, recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, The Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off. ;)

This isn't social media. Astonishingly, it's a car forum. I know who'd of thought it!

Not that I expect any of you cynics to believe me.

We ARE social media............................
Social media are interactive computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation or sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks

Can you apologise in advance.........after you have called somebody out?

And I think MarkMas was both applauding Doodlebug and being self-deprecating

Yes of course I am an example of this; that's why I included the line about 'making spreadsheets'. Maybe I should have said making graphs, so that everyone could understand that I was including myself in this.

I am not exactly 'taking screen grabs from Wikipedia', but I am taking what looks like pretty robust data from various sources and trying to make sense of what is happening. I have always been very willing to acknowledge that we have cognitive biases that lead us to try to draw conclusions that suit our preconceptions, but at least I am trying to communicate some data. I try to avoid posting scare stories from the Press, images of military movements or other nonsense, or repeating rumours or accounts from people supposedly 'in the know' or 'amongst the elite'. I am open to hearing first-hand accounts, but suspicious of their impact if they are unsubstantiated, anecdotal, emotional or unrepresentative.

I did consider volunteering, following Matt Hancock's call, but am making a small local contribution instead. I could do more, no doubt - thank you for your encouragement to do so.

I am very much in awe of the contribution made by hospital staff, those working in labs and those producing ventilators, and would always wish to support them. For example I would never tell someone making ventilators that they are wasting their time because there 'will be a lot of ventilators and no one to man them'. Imagine how annoying and dispiriting it would be to hear something like that.

Note this was released 8th of March so the figures will have increased somewhat , but the general view ties in with what some have been saying on here including me BennyD and Wattie .............it remains to be seen i for one have a questioning open mind on the matter

What's this all about ?

It is about a routine activity for the RN being spun up into a drama by the Press for clicks.

I‘m glad there’s someone else on here that knows what a car forum is. Perhaps all the graph makers and statisticians should go back to Facebook, or other such social media, and regurgitate their “statistics” back to the people they got them from.
