My work, and helicopter operators, have just put in place measures to hopefully stop any cases getting offshore.

I’ve just found out a shop in Nantwich has been closed down because one of it’s staff has been diagnosed with the virus. The world is getting a lot smaller.

We did the same a month ago, you can mitigate but not stop cases getting offshore if someone is not showing any symptoms. More importantly what are they doing to prepare for a case offshore, a production platform is no different from a cruise ship when it comes to the measures ultimately required. We have also planned for that possibility, but of course SE Asia is more front line than the UK, none the less still possible.

At the moment, anyone coming back from an affected country is not allowed to fly for 14 days. We must check the list of countries, on Gov. UK site, and if on it, then quarantine ourselves.

So, am I the only hypochondriac, pessimistic non believer of the official "everything is ok line"?

14 days is not long enough for quarantine.

Yesterday 180 Australians came back from the Diamond Princess ship...they are now in isolation.
500 other passengers went home and many used the Japanese subway- one of the busiest commuter routes in the world.

Will be interesting to see how many of the 180 test +ve in the days to come.

Japan’s not gonna be holding the Olympics methinks.

But what measures have your company made if someone offshore ever tests positive, are you all automatically in quarantine, no crew changes, make sure the oil or gas is still flowing ?.

Those measures are to, hopefully, stop that scenario happening. But if it did, I would assume we would all be stuck there, and yes keep the oil flowing, it's what pays the wages. Maybe I'll be onshore like I was for the Ash cloud :)

Yesterday and the day before I had mild cold / flu-like symptoms. And now I don’t. A good night’s sleep seemed to help.

I could conclude that I have a rampant virus that can cause severe death to people who are ill or have compromised immune symptoms (is that true, or did I just make it up? I have no idea) and / or respiratory problems. Or I could have just needed a decent kip. Regardless, I decided not to panic. It’s not healthy.

Severe death......as opposed to non-severe death? :lol2:

Hmm, interesting. Got me wondering if panic (at a certain level) might, in fact be healthy if
a) It supports your world view and reduces cognitive dissonance
b) If it stops you panicking about something 'important'

Just a thought. Probably heard it somewhere

Yes indeed, my obsessive terror of this deadly global virus has made me very confident in my righteous expertise and superiority, and very relaxed about Brexit, my mortgage, standing on stage for two whole days next week, the eulogy I have to give in front of 200 people on Thursday, my variators.....

No, wait....
