The more I read of this thread the more I feel that the virus is a fate we deserve.
Well that’s a ridiculous statement. It doesn’t have to be this way.
The way the virus is being dealt with and the over reaction now we know more about it, is killing thousands with other non- associated conditions whose treatment has been affected.
Theres a cost to everything in life and this virus does not justify the removal of liberties and the ruination of millions of livelihoods around the world.

It’s not that deadly- funny how the age groups affected are no longer touted......it’s mainly elderly.

On a slightly more personal note, has anyone heard from @jasst of late?

Hi C, I'm still with us, had a rough couple of days I must admit, but had hoped to have turned a corner, as yesterday was the first day I hadn't had a raised temp, but it is slightly up today, cough is the concerning thing at the moment, while I am not continually hacking up, when I do the mucus is blood flecked/slightly pink, so will give nhs 111 a call in a while to ask their opinion. But otherwise hanging on in there.

I mean this with no offence but it's non-news.

AstraZeneca, like any large corporation are being targeted all the time. Literally every minute of every day. My, and your home networks are being probed and 'attacked' every day.

What this appeared to be was a bit of Spear-phising combined with a drive by type infection. Unusual in that I've not heard LinkedIn job specs being used before, but nothing else stnads out.

My little company Phil Wilkinson Automotive has never been hacked but in the scheme of things I'm insignificant.

Oh that's great. But I promise you, (if you're online ;) )you've been attacked. You won't (probably) have noticed it.

AstraZeneca weren't hacked as a result of this either. But they were attacked. See the difference?

I have a dedi in Dublin (CityWest) and it's bombarded by attempts to ssh into it 24/7. Mostly from China, but I use authorised keys only so I'm fairly covered.

Exactly.

I had a constant stream of attempted authorisations to my mail server. Eventually locked it down to SSH and VPN only. I know they're still being attacked, but don't care no more. The only way to stop it is to pull then plug

I wouldn't have thought that North Korea would have the hardware or the software for that matter to be able to hack into anything!

CityWest. Now there a blast from the past.

Spent a bit of time there when it was being sold from Jim Mansfields family/estate.
Interesting character to say the least. Not to mention his complete disregard to planning regulations!

Nah. Hacking does not require high tech stuff. Having that at your disposal increases your possible success paths, but this, more than anything else, is a social engineering attack, i.e. persuading people to download an infected document. You can do that with a cheap mobile phone, and some basic knowledge of people.

Oh and the Norks probably spend a lot on getting up to date hardware, software and skills. The prize could be enormous, and the benefit cuts both ways (i.e they can use the same resource to defend against NATO, which is sure as **** trying to get into the NORK (and anyone else's) systems

My cousin is/was a bit of a hacker. He hacked South African airways system to get a job with them.
As he told them their system was rubbish and needed to be protected better.

He got the job.

He then told Microsoft a similar thing and said if you don't improve your protection he'll sit with them and hack their system in under an hour.
They didn't believe him and he did exactly what he said he would. And got the job.
He the decided he wanted to do another degree at Oxford or Cambridge (I forget which) and they said they would pay for his tuition, his accommodation and expenses just as long as he came back to work for them afterwards.

He turned them down!

The last I heard (whist he was at Uni there was a massive family falling out) he was employed by the Chinese Government earning gazillions........

I probably get upwards of 20 emails a day that get past filters for junk; the last two months however there has been a ‘heavy bombardment’ telling (upwards of 40 a day) me my (don’t have) Norton subscription is expired, now increasingly McAfee and I suspect they will move on to others soon. Most annoyingly blocking has no effect as every one is from a different ‘sender’.
