The Metro was a brilliant little car. I had a 1.3 VdP, also had a van version at work. Way better than a Renault 5, Fiat Uno or that hideous Citroen thing.

Hardly, I am worried...that the UK's car industry is being taken over by foreign companies....or am I thirty years too late to worry about that....

It was a good car in its day, just not in the 21st Century.

Am I right in thinking that the BMW 1-Series was supposed to be a Rover 25 replacement or at least a badge engineered version.

No it wasn't it was f*cking awful! A mate had one, it broke down so often that when he said he'd drive us to the pub we said, "nah, we'll walk, we want to get there!"

Well they did still suppy diesel engines for the range rover for a few years.
Quite a bit more than the engines , it was an X5 squared off with a lump hammer , the electronics were all bmw , I bought a android radio which was dual fit X5- L322 and not just electronically , even the shape of it fitted both dashes

More the other way round. The cynical would say Land Rover was the reason BMW bought into Rover. So it could develop a 4x4 for them. Once that was done they threw it away.
