Dixons Carphone cutting 800 jobs
Pizza Express is restricting and being put up for sale so there another 1,100 jobs

Anyone like to take a punt on the unemployed number come November when the furlough scheme is finished?
At the end of May (most recent statistics issued last month) there were 1.35m unemployed. So all of the job losses in the UK in the last couple of months won't be included.
So I guess we'll find out how may unemployed there were in November in January 2021.
I'd bet it won't be far off 5m :(

Dixons/Carphone warehouse and Pizza Express were both in serious financial difficulties BEFORE we had even heard of Coronavirus

The speed at which the latest lockdowns are activated may well be the best way to control the virus / 2nd wave, but they will slow / put at risk any potential recovery as people just can’t plan anything with any certainty.
Just about everyone I know who was planning a late summer trip overseas has cancelled ( I have my fingers crossed for the SM LeMans trip but if I had been going I would have bailed by now).
4+ months in and I still can’t believe what we are going though.
And people just are not taking it seriously, my son walked out of Pizza Express StAlbans yesterday as tables were not socially distanced and waitresses/ waiters were not wearing masks or visors.

Stay safe everyone - the virus is still out there !

Spot on. I can’t get over how many people who are educated/in well paid jobs (sometimes both) seem to think it is back to normal. Personally I’m not getting on a plane for at least six months and I don’t understand people booking holidays that involve flights. Self drive to UK/Europe appeals, hiring cottages to minimise risk etc. We are going to be wearing masks for another 2-3 years IMHO as the vaccines being rushed through are just interim fixes for high risk groups.

Hopefully young people will learn to cook again rather than eating out in shite restaurants serving reheated previously frozen food that comes pre-made on a lorry and just requires assembly.

I was in Stratford upon Avon last week and people seemed sensible.. social distancing in the hotel and restaurants appeared to work. The hotel said it was about 20% occupied but later in the day the chap on reception said the good weather had brought quite a few walk ins. And for balance.. I live in Cheshire so not under a local lockdown yet, my village seems to adhere in the main... but my nephew lives in Manchester and he says he was not surprised about the restrictions they now have as social distancing in bars was a myth.. his age group, 26, seemed not to care...

A friend of mine who works in Manchester said the same. She said it was as if the Corona Virus had never existed.

I'd have thought a simple clip at the back would resolve the issue. But it does seem to be a bit of a potential **** up

Agreed, or tie loops in the elastic like I do at work, this also pulls them in tighter to stop fogging of specs, but admittedly I am not wearing them all day...

Yup. I was working on some financial projections yesterday. I zero'd the Travel and entertainment row until March 2021. Just can't see any expectation that business travellers would be enthusiastic at the prospect of travel nor warmly received at the other end until at least then.

Agree with you both. I cancelled my August flights, and will wait probably until Nov/Dec. I could go now, but would have to change airports twice, risk is not worth it imo.
