Two more villages locked down today and now a case in Milan.....another death too.
Thank goodness “everything is under control”.
Honestly, it’s time people in the Uk started taking this a little bit more seriously. Not panicking, not over reacting, but getting our British heads out of the sand, it’s still early days. It’s a major problem world wide, maybe no worse than the flu for most people but it’s not going to stop tomorrow, nor are the repercussions.

^ I tend to agree, although personally I still see it as just another strain of flu, my work would not put measures in place unless they saw it potentially hitting operations, and potentially profit, and the measures, even setting them up and putting them in place, will have a cost in their own right.

Totally and that includes governments.

One thing is blatantly clear- the 14 day quarantine is woefully inadequate, it needs to be at least double that. Umpteen infected showed no signs way beyond that period.

Secondly, multiple testing seems necessary. Some required 5 to show positive despite feeling unwell.

( I was aware if this reading an unverified article about 20 days ago!)

Interestingly, I read an unverified article that suggested the genetic make up of certain cultures makes them far more susceptible to the worst the virus can do. Asian was top of the pile whilst British/European was mid-table. Scots were at the bottom as it does not survive well in alcohol.

This unverified article has an interesting slant and raises some pertinent points that others elsewhere are already experiencing.

Stockpiling some required medications is not mentioned and they would be a priority too...ie bp tabs, heart meds etc.

Meanwhile in the Uk a group from the most infected place in the world beyond China returned and no-one in the front felt a Mask was needed....but the medical suit was. Wtf!

Offshore SAE Where I am right now we even have the contingencies for the straight forward flu which could potentially bring down a 5 million USD a day platform. So in all honesty the adaptations for this Corona virus is not particularly huge, but none the less a challenge. But what I am saying is that in the UK we tend to stick our heads in the sand and slag off those who don’t.

Yes things are in place for straight forward flu etc. I've worked in this industry since 1983, all I'm saying is they seem to be treating this one a bit more seriously, briefing personnel, and signed disclaimers agreeing to not travelling if we have visited an affected region.

So working for the Government I have seen how we prepared for previous outbreaks of swine fever, bird flu and the likes... I can even recall the training and prep we had for a post nuclear strike.

It was money wasted, from the adaptation of our ministry's industrial fridges to create temporary storage for corpses to the purchase of thousands of beds, doses of Tammy Flu, stockpiles of fuel and food.

It was madness, and most ended up spoilt and burned a year later.

If you have a spare hour or so listen to a BBC radio play called 'contagion' , https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...BMAB6BAgNEAU&usg=AOvVaw18RoC9bsOZjpnHR3Z_0yYL
Its quite close to what will happen when it really goes wrong... but shows that there is nothing you can do but isolate yourself from every other human.

it doesn’t help that we’re forever being told by a shrill, deranged media that the end is nigh. Be it Y2K (remember that one?) SARs, Avian flu, nuclear war, Eurohornets and more, there are always numerous apocalyptic horsemen saddling up ready to see in the end of days with us at the most rubbish party ever.

Reasoned, measured analysis and common sense are good friends. Yelling and wailing and British stoicism will seldom see eye to eye.

What does the forum suggest one does to halt this accursed virus?

Go out and drive the motor hard as intended and put a bit more CO2 in the air ;)

Stop pretending it’s under control for a start.
Stop using temp guns- pointless.
Stop using useless 14 day quarantine periods.
Stop pretending this isn’t as serious as it is.

Lock everyone down everywhere for at least 28days to identify existing cases and stop the “human to human “ interaction.
Take it from there with identified cases after that and extend if necessary.
My gut feeling is that’ll never happen and it will get worse as a result. Look at Korea now!

I just read that the Chinese authorities are encouraging a return to the factories to get the canonic wheels turning again. I make no comment as to how true that is, but it does seem reckless.

On the upside, the reduced travel must be doing wonders for the planet.

Today we bought three months worth of shopping we would normally buy - in one day.
Preparing for the unthinkable, not panicking.
Wonder how many Italians wish they’d done the same and now find shelves empty. We will add to this over the next few days.

Meanwhile Chinese banks have apparently been told to apply “loan default forgiveness” to those who have missed mortgage/loan repayments.
Sounds reasonable, until you think that China could be locked down for another 4-6months and
what are the banks/Govt gonna do if 800,000,000 Chinese (or even just those left alive) say feck you and never ever pay again......

Indeed, I presume the first thing is to check whether the kitchen table the public information films told you to hide under was still there?

It is true, I know of two factories which opened at the beginning of last week, sanctioned by the authorities.
