Apple senior exec 'leaves' after video boasting about cars and women

Tony Blevins, Apple’s vice-president of procurement, featured in a video by Daniel Mac, a TikToker who approaches people in expensive cars and asks them: “What do you do for a living?”. Blevins says: “I race cars, play golf and fondle big-breasted women, but I take weekends and major holidays off.” I believe a quote from 1980's movie Arthur. He also appears to have a penchant for women who laugh like a mutant, cross-breed between a chimp and hyena...

The funniest thing about this (apart from the woman's laughter) is how people have reacted to his 'firing' because what they perceive the injustice as being here seems to say everything about what they believe is wrong in the world... you be the judge.

Bloomberg reports that the video set off an internal investigation at Apple, which resulted in Blevins being removed as the head of his team. I imagine he was made an offer he couldn't refuse, so technically not sacked but the intent and outcome the same.

Somewhat insensitive quote to make in these times I feel. A flip comment that ended badly in the court of social media. Shame as a joke between consenting adults who got the context, it would probably have gone down well.

(And just for info I have previously been asked to cut back some of the comments I have made on here about my previous roles. So it can get nasty in a hurry)

He left, not sacked. I’d have dug in and made them fire me for doing nothing wrong.

Interesting one. In most contracts I've ever signed / issued there's a clause roughly about doing anything that brings the organisation into disrepute. Typically there is no distinction as to whether it should bring the org into disrepute, so as with so much, perception becomes key. If there's a massive backlash against something your top execs say, it's probably good enough to trigger that clause. But I suspect the offer he couldn't refuse was the way out.

Perhaps this incident gave Apple the excuse they were looking for to rid themselves of his dress sense… or that hideous cackle in the background when he got onto Zoom calls.

...think it also speaks to the danger these handheld transmitters pose. Not excusing racism, sexism, etc. but something that would come off as chummy between two people in a private conversation takes on a life of its own when broadcast, out of context, to 4 billion people...

On most I have signed the wording is even more general, “likely to” “may” bring the company into disrepute.

Which is why I do very little in any social media and on a forum such as this keep to forum name and make little or no direct connection to my work.

I have probably said worse but as a Car mechanic no one cares.
Workshop banter at times is something else.
Funny old world.

The tide has begun to turn. Trans players in women’s sport has started to get some sort of sensible conversation around it. WRU, WR, RFU all banned them as have FINA & UCI for their respective sports.

Trans players should compete against other Trans players.

Thats it. Full stop..

They’re not women.

They don’t wanna be men.

Whats next?
Do they wanna retire early, get a preferential mortality rate on life assurance?

By the way, I am saying this as a 100%lesbian.

I love women….particularly hot ones.
