Any Duo- select upgrades?

Considering that tge motorised manual transmission continued improving, i was wondering whether anyone managed to upgrade the duo-select of early QP V?

There is a table of the CC software versions fitted to each model year somewhere on the forum.

It should list the 'sofast' version fitted to your car and if an 'improved' version was available after yours. However not all improvements are seen as such as they often made it softer for the US market.

Thank you guys, thats a great table. So according to this my MY05 QP shares the same hardware (CFC301) with the MY07 QP Sport GT.

Would that mean that i could somehow use the more updated software from the later model? It was reported that the gear changes of the SGT were faster In manual mode, which is exactly what i am looking for ideally.

Certainly is not... Sadly modding these cars isn't as cheap as the equivalent German vehicle.

They occasionally come up used for 300-400 bur you will need to send it back to FD for reprogramming and a new harness for a few hundred but it works out much cheaper with the hassle

Worth considering the Formula Dynamics Drive by wire enhancement

Not a fan to be honest with anything that tricks the existing ECU to do something it was not designed for.
It does speed up changes, but changes at a lower threshold that are slower naturally. Changes that are faster naturally (full throttle, high rpm) are not made any faster.
So for me, why do you want faster changes when you are not under full throttle or high rpm anyway?
My opinion of course!

Because quicker changes = less clutch slippage = less clutch wear = longer life per clutch. At least that what I have been told. I was going to post on this to request views of those who have done the FD DBW conversion.

I would expect that unless the rpm are matched, quicker gear change could be higher wear and tear though. If not on the clutch maybe on the gear/synchro, no?

Quicker is the time for the hydraulics to change gear from one to another, not necessarily related to clutch slippage when the plates come together.

I'm non technical Mike so I wouldn't know.

The FD website, perhaps a little cagily, says: "Customers also report improved clutch wear from DuoSelect (F-1) models as a result of faster, more positive clutch engagements". so they're not making the claim, their customers are.

Although on the intro page it says " Improved Clutch Engagement / Reduces Wear".

It would be good if someone who had done the DBW mod and kept the car for a few years could give us their experience.

Most people that have one say it improves clutch wear. I think there's too many variables to state the claim 100% but jut for the improved experience it's probably a good thing :)

I have had the DBW unit on my QP for just over a year now, I can't say I really notice any huge difference to the gear changes but the most noticeable thing is the quickness in clutch engagement, the throttle response is so much quicker than standard. A lot quicker to get going off the line and using Auto mode is a lot more user friendly. it selects the correct gear a lot quicker rather than the delay normally experienced.

For me it was well worth the money and has transformed the car, mine was a second hand unit from eBay that needed sending back to FD for reprogramming and a new harness but worked out to about £500 all in.

For that money i agree it is worth trying. Btw why did you have to send it back? Was there an issue or had to reset bcause it pairs with the car?

Apparently they have to programme the unit to your car and require the chassis number, also they ensure the unit is working correctly as well. They say its to ensure there are no bad units with their name being used. probably just another way of making money :). They will not just sell the harness on its own they will only do this if you send the unit back first.

But I was happy with the price I paid under half of a new one and the results for me are fantastic transform the car.

A bit of a late input to this but based on my experience with the MY04 QP, a FD DBW module does wonders for the gear change. I have to drive in town more than 50% of the time and the gear change is as smooth as a manual. I do lift off the gas pedal between changes. And the Sports mode is the only mode I drive in.
When the opportunity is there to unleash the power, I do not lift off for gear changes and they are satisfyingly quick. The head jerk is much less compared to when the module is switched off.

I thoroughly recommend this enhancement.
