Even PayPal payments can be reversed. I was approached by a scammer, he was on an oil rig, wanted to buy it for his university graduating son, etc etc etc. I raised it on here knowing full well that it was a scam but the advice was that PayPal too can be reversed.

I'm still happy to offer my account as a guinea pig, for Phil's benefit.

Stolen credit card, account take over, bounced cheque etc. ..... multiple reasons why a Paypal payment can be reversed. And that's before we get into customer complaints and disputes!

The password to enter the menu system, on an Ingenico IPP350 PED (Pin Entry Device) is 1985. You can cause havoc in McDonald's with that little nugget, you can reboot them all from one of them assuming they've not upgraded to a later model.

When their SureSwitch payment processing system went down as it frequently did we'd pull out our cancelled credit card and use it to buy burgers knowing McDonalds chose to store and forward payments when unable to contact the payments engine (I think that was the term) ie free burgers at it would only process the stored payments over night - too late!

Yeh, but was thinking:
  1. it means you don't give out your bank details as you can request a payment
  2. When payment received you transfer to your chosen bank account
  3. sit on that for 10-14 days ( or whenever safe to consider a done deal)
  4. Release vehicle to the new owner
  5. No 'confidential' banking info released
  6. if it is a Scammer, then you're unlikely to get caught out with this method.
  7. Only a thought to try to help anyway.....

Good Luck :)

Good Luck :)

Charge backs from credit card funding can (and often do) occur many months after the transaction .... and you will be liable ....and paypal will take you to Court!

And as we keep stating, there is nothing 'confidential' about a sort code and account number.

bugger me, what a minefield, enough to make anyone paranoid in taking any type of payment, would i be right in saying that "faster payments" cannot be recalled by the sending bank once received the other end

The longer answer is, well longer and I CBA to go into it :)

well you've just confused the **** out of me now, ive always been told by my bank that they cannot be recalled

Quote:
All BACS and Faster payment credits are cleared funds on the day of crediting the account. They can be used straight away and can't be recalled. For further information please see the links below to the Bacs and Faster payment services websites.

What they mean is that you (as a punter) cannot recall the payment but, as with everything, there are exceptional circumstances that permit this.

fecking confusing if you ask me, it reads as if to suggest once in your account it's cleared and fully available funds, are you in banking and have inside info?

more info on faster payments, clear to me that they cannot be recalled once received the other end

Q:Can I cancel a Faster Payment after I’ve authorised it?
A:
You can cancel the payment up until the day before the payment is due to be sent (the credit date) but not if the payment status is ‘Processing'.
However, once the payment has debited your account, you can't recall it because the funds will be with the beneficiary. In this case, you should speak to your beneficiary directly about returning your funds.
If you can't contact your beneficiary, you should write to the bank the payment was sent to, enclosing a request (to be forward to their customer) for the funds to be returned.
