Reading all this makes me sick... I don’t get why I am paying so much...
I have a 8y/o M3, a 5 y/o Touareg, a 10 y/o Ferrari, my wife and I have a perfect record w 10+ years NCB, the cars sleep in a garage, all cars insured for less than 6k miles and we pay £1000 per car per year, so £3k total... I have spent hours and hours every year comes renewal time and I can’t get the price down.
This is ridiculous to see how cheap some you good people premiums are

Where do you live?

I’m in Worcestershire and my premiums are 60% of yours.

I'm under 40 years old and get the GS insured for under £400 per year. One year I actually had a quote for £240 on it!

in surrey, must be another reason for your hugely inflated premiums?
Is there a way to find out if there’s anything on my insurance record?
I never had an accident, or speeding ticket, 10+ unprotected NCB years, married man w 2 kids... as boring as it gets, yet I have been taken for a ride for years

When you make the declarations on you history (no claims) if there are any / mistakenly on your record they will see that on the database and question you.

I’m 41 and mine hasn’t really changed.

As well as where you live your job can make a huge difference to premiums.

.... car parked on the drive, but apparently garage/street/drive had no weighting....

Some underwriters seem to prefer 'street' over 'drive' - if your car is on the drive the scum know which house to break into to get the keys.

I'm with LV and got quotes through moneysupermarket, ask the question with your broker/insurance company they should tell you if anything is appearing on the insurance database that you're not aware of, is your insurance just social domestic and pleasure or class 1 business as well

oddly, adding named drivers also reduces the quote/premium as long as claim free, no points and over 25

Yeah. My father took my mother off his insurance policy when she stopped driving, and the premium went up. He tried to put her back on, and the premium went up again.

It is also weird that insuring two cars (for one driver) basically costs about 2x what one car costs. Surely the main risk factor is in the driver and the miles driven.

Car insurance is ridiculous.

That appears to have changed now, my wife has a totally clean slate yet it was costing me £90 more to have her insured for it. And it was costing her more to have me on hers (only slightly so I have stayed on) It certainly did used to be the case (unless some IC look at this in a different point of view)!
