And yet you run 8 cars so are happy to spend a bunch on insurance, tax, maintenance etc etc. I'd personally rather plough all of that cost into two cars - one silly one and one daily driver. We all make our choices, whether we lose or gain. In the end, as long as you're happy with your own choice, that's all that really matters.
Of course each to their own and rightly so. All I am saying is these numbers are far too rich for me.

You have absolutely no idea what my vehicles cost me if anything so how you can make any judgement or comment is a something.

I know what I have spent across the board and I guarantee it is nothing like what you are thinking or suggesting.

I think your man maths calculator was fully functioning then Adam. A stunning car at a great price. I don't think you will lose much and it will be more than worth it in smiles per mile! Jealous that you could use Bamford rose to make it sound even better...

AM Cambridge is already trying to push me towards something new. Bless 'em. They're taking me out in a DBS-S when I collect mine from its service. Curse 'em. I daresay I could break even on mine I if wanted and was able to blow £250k on a new one, but I think for now mine will do just fine (luckily!). If anything, I could only really see me moving into a Vanquish, but not for a year or two. And depending what our friends in Italy pull out of their hat in the meantime.

Agree totally, don’t understand why people are concerned about whether or not other people will lose/ not lose money.. would be good for you to revisit this thread in 2 years and detail the true costs.
In the meantime, enjoy that V12, I’ve made various enquiries against other cars, but no one wants a GS, and as I’m now going abroad, I’ll keep it I guess, cos any car I have now will not get driven too much, unless I get an offer on it...
Dave, what's going on? You waited patiently for a special blue Maserati to come along and you want to trade it in. Surely it's the perfect car to keep tucked away and drive occasionally. It will then retain its super low mileage.

True and I will, but like most I have the itch to try other cars.

Just out of “interest” now that I have sold the Strad (why the f**k did I do that :-( ) anyone got any idea what the finance figures “could” look like on monthly over 48 months with a balloon payment on a 2013/2014 FF for circa £140k?

Deposit would be £70k...

Cheers!

Wait 2 years and get a used 812... ;)

Wild stab in the dark? £50. I'm reckoning at least £70k GFV. They may not even let you pay a deposit that high. You might top out at 33%.

Stu, if you want the details of the finance guy I use then let me know. He's good.

I think the DBS is the one that will be viewed as a gem. Maybe the Vanquish as well.”

Outrun, agree with you on the DBS. A friend bought a 3-ish year old one back in 2012-ish from a main AM dealer with just 3,500 miles and a rare manual. He paid £83.5k from AM.......!! What’s that worth now??
Prices have been dropping recently but that’s a serious long term prospect.

Don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to add 8 x insurance, 8 x tax and 8 x running costs to get to a fairly decent figure. I’m sure you manage to do this very keenly however unless you’re exempt from these costs, that’s still a few quid.

May not be the same figures as we are discussed on these high value cars but I don’t think it’s very presumptuous to assume it’s still some cash.

If that offends you, why list all of these in your signature?

I keep thinking about all these options and what I should do next for a fun car; should I buy it outright, should I finance it with or without a balloon and I’ve begun to think that very little lives up to how I imagine it and that perhaps a 10k Integra Type-R or Clio or 996 would be more fun.

Doesn't offend me at all. Not sure there is much you can do or say that will ever offend me. I'm pretty tough skinned.

Guess a figure Sherlock and I'll tell you if your close?

I don't do anything conventionally so why try to guess based on convention? I work hard to keep my costs low and efficient. You might need to try a little harder

Let’s not let that escalate, I like your car collection especially the Volvo, I had a T6 xc90, would have loved the v8. Let me know when you sell it, I could be tempted.

With a 70k deposit they would be paying you!

No worries, agreed

The XC90 will be going as soon as I have found a crew van to replace it with. Looking for a Vito Dualiner Sport V6 Auto or similar.

Had a XC90 D5 diesel that lasted 2 weeks and flipped it. Horrible tractor thing. Amazing how different a car can be with a different engine.

This is merely an observation how it appears that money serves money and not a criticism of any SM members.

The trade-in was booked at £20k against, as I understand, it a 2013 DB9. Rwc13 had looked for £25k for a private sale. I don't know what the purchase price for the AM was but a quick look on AM's Timeless website would suggest £65k. Apologies to Rwc13 if that is a gross undervaluation of his car.

I cannot see that car being worth less than £45k in two year's time and for the next 2 years Rwc13 pays £12 a month plus presumably one service in that time.

If someone offered me £10k for my 4200 to drive a £32,500 early Vantage V8 at £6 per month, I would be tempted because that car will not be less than £22,500 in 2 year's time. I cannot see that happening but if an AM dealer wants to call me I am listening.

I have never bought on finance, and I do not subscribe to the only ever lease a depreciating asset view, but I can see how this all makes sense. Even more so where you have the certainty of a guaranteed value at the end of 2 years so that you can plan with certainty of the worst case scenario.

And for the regular Joe on the street who may have a used car worth £5,000, I doubt anyone is offering to get them into a £17,500 car at £3 per month.

Or the converse that could Rwc13 be able to use his DB9 as a £40k deposit in 2 years' time against a £135k car and pay only £25 per month on finance?

These are observations from someone who genuinely does not get how this works.

Put very simply it is the car equivalent of an interest only mortgage. Some of that interest is paid monthly some is what you lose of your deposit.

And if the car is worth more than the GFV, or you can afford to pay the balloon payment and then sell for more, you will get some money back?

Correct, and dgmx5 isn’t a million miles out on the numbers.

The biggest surprise in this for me was the low interest rate available on a used car. When I bought a Range Rover recently, the interest rate on a used one was double that on a new one - clearly pushing the buyers in the direction of buying new
