Another battery thread,

Looks like my battery has died, had to jump it last sunday, drove about 300 miles, stopped several times, always re started fine, started Monday to get it out and wash it , all ok, got in it on tues to check ipod would work, fine. Today, nothing, nada, zilch, wouldn't unlock on the button, so open the boot battery condition meter wouldn't even register, multi meter registered 7.0 v, can't believe it would go that flat in 4 days! Navtrack has been removed, so that's not a drain. Battery is an Exide EA770, not sure of age, will have a trawl through service history to see if I can find out how old it is.

Check the date of manufacture as well, it might well have sat for a while before being fitted which isn’t good for the plates.

Managed to get it up to a level where my ctek equivalent will charge it, will see what it's like in morning and borrow friends dump tester

Haven't been able to find that yet, thought it was on all batteries.

Should be a date code stamped into the casing. I think on the top but maybe it's different for different manufacturers.

If you get it to charge, leave it disconnected for a few days and see if it looses charge. If it does you know it’s a goner.

Charged it up to 12.8v yesterday, has gone down to 12.2v this morning with nothing connected to it, is that a normal drop over 24hrs?

do a search here - might be an answer. Had battery so low I had to piggy back another decent one to get it going. If it's your main car just buy a new one.

New Exide EA770 ordered from Tayna, can't believe how cheap they are from them.

just checked there - cheaper that last time I bought. Interestingly their "star buy" was fiver more than cheaper unit but does have 4 year warranty. Bought Bosch S5 last time - on advice here and does have 5 year cover. Not sure after 4 or 5 year getting a swap, but worth a go
