Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio - who owns one and is it epic?

Hello SM'ers, it has been a while!

I am considering the QF for my next fun car amongst an odd mix of others - Nissan GTR, AMG GTR, or a BMW M5C. The Alfa is a gorgeous car that seems to hold its value reasonably well but nice used well-optioned examples that are not red seem scarce. Which led me to think about buying new and getting exactly what I want and keeping it for 4-5 years. How are long term owners finding their cars, what has been good, or bad, and - would you buy another? Warts and all opinions would be welcome as I am close to purchasing an MY21 Quad.

I have read plenty of criticism of the dealer network but I am reassured by AR having a network of approved independent workshops. We live in North Wales so have a couple of options within an hour's drive.

Each night I fall asleep dreaming of a Montreal Green Quadrifoglio built to my spec! Help :p

Cheers Simon

Have you tried CARWOW... I did 2 weeks ago and got some very competitive deals for both BMW and Alfa. I've not driven the Guilia but did take a Stelvio for a test, that was good fun. The noise was fantastic. We couldn't fault the sales team at Mangoletsi, really helpful and low key. Good luck, you're choosing between 4 great cars there.

I got it as a loaner car while the GT was in for service. It was such a good drive. I kinda want one as family run around car. But it isnt very spacious to the rear passengers. Driving wise a very good front end, great throttle response and available power. Compared to the Granturismo its a lot lighter and more nimble.

I can't imagine you would regret this decision. Buy new, get extended warranty and enjoy trouble free.

The interior quality, fit and finish is where it lets itself down. But if you’re more interested in the speed and drive than features such such as interior tactility, go for it. The Alfa is an amazing car to drive, but a disappointing place to be.

Agree with Ewan, the interior quality and materials used is not fitting with a car costing that much new.....but from owners views and the press reviews it's such a great drive and lots of fun but looking at your list I would never take one over an AMG GTR as that is in a totally different league. I have been a passenger in one and it is brutal, looks stunning and the noise....Such an event and lovely place be.....

I don't know if you are in the AROC but if it's still running there was an infinity scheme which apparently was giving good discounts on new cars

@mondie, been a while. Hope you’re well. Nice car, echo the comments above. You’re now local to me by the sounds of it.

Hi Dicky, it sure has been a while, 7yrs would you believe. It is great to see your business doing well, you always have some lovely cars available. I like to have a look every now and then to see if you have something to tempt me. Yes, we are just down the road from you now. It's great to be back in civilisation :p

Thanks Geoff, yes I am a member and the scheme is still running.

The MY20 brought some improvements to the interior which addressed the previous criticism. Better tech, a few material changes and switchgear improvements etc. I would spec with the Carbon Sparco seats, carbon/alcantara s/wheel, green seatbelts, white/green stitching and white lower interior panels. I think it looks epic and makes most alternatives look pretty dull.

The AMG GTR is a cool car but there is something exotic about the QF that is deeply appealing while remaining not too extroverted. It's as close as you can get to a 4 door Ferrari, its the perfect size and I like having the extra seats.

Are there any owners on SM? There hasn't been much chatter about the QF on the forum that I could find in a search anyway.

Cheers

Im in holland, it was the dealer i bought the car from. They gave me a ghibli the first time. Great family car with lots of room and still plenty fast. But they also sell alfa and i was keen to try the giulia. So who dares wins, they gave me the car as a loaner. Guess the Giulia like the maserati's sit quite a long time on a dealer floor, so every chance to sell one they take.

My opinion is

I can't imagine being disappointed , you buy a car like that for the drive, not how good the interior is

My best driving car ever was an impreza wrx , it just gave you so much confidence , bland inside but just went where you pointed it , I'm thinking the Giulia would be similar

Unlikely I'll ever have the 40k plus to spend on a giulia quadrifoglio but if I did i'd be trawling the used ads tonight

Must admit it is on my list for a daily too but don't think I would go new, and I am getting too many cars that I hardly use. But there is just something about them.
Good luck in getting one

The QF is one of the few new cars that tempts me and if we were still in the UK I probably would have bought by now

Viewed as its role as a sports saloon, I think the guilia QF is pretty much the pinnacle so far. It may actually never be bettered in the future, as manufacturers are forced into hybrid and electric for future model development, with all the compromises that brings.

The Germans are just going more size, weight, power, 4wd, too much tech etc.
Are the interior materials as good as some of the German rivals? Not as different as people make out I don’t think in reality. The actual interior design is good though, no stupid tacked on iPad style screens for example.

It looks great, is light for its class, has a great engine, suspension, steering and driving position. It has all the tech, and more, than you actually need. They are proving reliable so far too.

The only downsides I see are a poor dealer network to look after them, being turbo they sound good, but not great (but all the rivals are turbo too now) and there is not even an option for a manual over here.

I think they will be a future classic in a way no current M3 or C63 will be.
Great cars I reckon.

Its funny how far apart peoples opinions can be about cars, even though an appreciation for Maserati is obviously shared.
To me, an QF is not exotic and no where near a Ferrari ,

I'm not saying its not a very cool car and I imagine it'd be an absolutely awesome drive, but just a different league to a Fezza or AMG-GTR.
To me, the QF would be the better alternative to an M3 or an Audi RS.

Exotic may seem like a strong claim but when you look further into how the QF came to be there is a solid basis to it. The best engineers from Ferrari designed the engine, chassis and suspension under the direction of the late Sergio Marchionne. Active aero, the DVT differential, heavy use of carbon fibre, the body designed in Ferrari's wind tunnel etc all add something special. There is plenty on the web about the 5Bn invested into developing the Giulia in just 2.5 years, if you're interested this article outlines how the car came to be and Ferraris involvement:

This is a good link and video explaining the car's development in a good level of detail by someone who knows their onions.

Since Alfa and Ferrari are no longer in the same stable its quite remarkable this car exists and that makes me wonder about its future. The Giulia platform has not sold in the numbers Alfa needed so how long the Qf will be produced and whether it will ever see any updates is questionable.
